😡 OVERWHELMING ANGER TOWARDS THE OLD FIRM FRIENDLY! Rangers & Celtic fans react!

I took to the streets of Glasgow to ask fans of Celtic FC & Rangers FC fans what think of the proposed Old Firm friendly set to take place in Australia in November 2022.

It is due to celebrate the opening of the new Sydney Football Stadium (as part of the Sydney Super Cup) and is also being coined as “Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming”.

Are you a Rangers or a Celtic fan? If so, comment your thoughts below!!!

  1. Without going into the reasons, the hatred that exists between the two sets of supporters makes the decision to hold match difficult to understand. I don't think that hatred is mirrored by the clubs, but the supporters are a different breed. There is no common ground, both defend their respective points of view by attacking the other, never by looking inwardly.
The scandal around Celtic at the moment is not acknowledged by their support, they deflect it as "points scoring" by Rangers supporters. The issues that led to Rangers being placed in the bottom tier of Scottish football 10 years ago are viewed as being totally motivated by outside influences, again rarely, if ever, do Rangers supporters look inwardly. The years of bias against Roman Catholics at Ibrox gets continual airtime from Celtic supporters though it ended nearly 40 years ago!! The bigotry in sections of the Celtic support is often overlooked, or defended by stating Rangers supporters are worse!
The reason for not wanting this "friendly" has nothing to do with the size of the rivalry between the clubs, it has everything to do with the hatred felt by each set of supporters.

  2. The huns shat it and now look like complete clowns who will never be trusted to be involved like anything like this again, a complete laughing stock in world football. Nothing new there!

  3. I would do this every year except make it one competitive league Glasgow Derby in a different country each year. England, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, USA, Canada etc would snap up tickets to a competitive Glasgow Derby. Celtic could make a fortune from it. TRFC obviously less so as they're the support act.

  4. "Why not have a friendly here against Hamburg and Linfield" aka other bigoted teams that we can sing our bigoted songs with. Well mate, because your team desperately needs money due to about £25m worth of debt and those friendlies wouldn't raise a fraction of the £3.5m you were going to get for playing Celtic in Australia. The only reason you were getting that money is because of Celtic, its not available to you if you don't play the support act role. By the way, that £3.5m is only half of what Celtic are (still) making from the friendlies 😂

  5. What annoyed the Rump, the most, was the little fact of the rangers getting 5 million while Celtic will be raking in around 12 million and the rangers are publicly the 'B-Side'. The ranges don't do contracts Hummel, Sports Direct, Cinch, Wall memorial, face painters etc etc.

  6. Seems it’s not going ahead.
There’s two ways of looking at this 1 – The rangers S**t it or 2- They’re worried about the high cost of fuel to fly to Australia

  7. Man city fan,,!,,,No club will turn down more money for a couple of games than can be made in a season , as for the so called home coming proper pr move that one ,
    Still love the gers

  8. I’m glad it is off!

Celtic have played the one club, not half of anything card so much but when it comes to earning money from us their all in. Making sure the trademark is upto date and asking us to join them in co arranged tours in USA and Oz.

Also just remember they leaked this early to bury that they could be sued for child sexual abuse victims.

They lied about getting extra money from it and then tried to rebrand it to the homecoming. Not what was agreed but again they like to be nothing to do with us, unless there is money.

What about their Japan tour that stopped games being re arranged to help Rangers in the 08 uefa cup.

There is more I could list.

  9. As a Newcastle fan if someone asked me would you like a Tyne wear derby to be a friendly my response would be definitely not in my opinion so i can only imagine Celtic and rangers fans would be livid at the idea

  10. you miss the point, the club known as pacific shelf are embroiled in a massive paedophelia, child abuse scandal…why not report the truth about why its being rejected…its a dirty evil abuse ridden club, that if, the class action against them succeeds…they will owe so much money that its unlikely they could stay afloat..stewart robertson needs to be ejected from the club and join the scum in the east end midden – that club need to be removed from football full stop…all those poor kids now grown adults and the souls who couldnt handle what happened to them at celtic at the hands of celtic coaches….RIP to these tragic souls, their families deserve justice

  11. Fans that want their teams to lose out on a nice payday and a chance to further publicise the Scottish game at an international level absolutely baffle me. My only reservation about it is the timing, both teams are going to be missing key players due to the world cup and thus the game might not be as good as it could be if both teams had all their top players.

  12. The point brought up by the Rangers fan about keeping money in the area, I think he has a really good point, but nothing is stopping both clubs injecting a portion of the money they get back into the community.

  13. From a PR point of view one of the biggest derbies in World football would be brilliant for fans in a different country to see. Financially it just makes sense if someone is prepared to offer silly money. Fans opposing this can't possibly have the best interests of their club in mind. One game that will offset most of the losses incurred over the covid lockdowns.
