My mother claims her grandmother told her that our family is descendant from a tall tale character and the only known so called River Pirate King Mike Fink. How true is this is really debatable. For one little to no proof exist of a mike fink river pirate ever existed. Next is how much of pirate was he to have become friends with the legendary Davey Crockett. The story goes that Mike Fink was a river boat captain and a fierce brawler and drunk, but also one of the best marksman with a gun that is till he met Davey Crockett. The two became friends after a few adventures and then parted ways. Mike Fink died either in a shoot out according to some, or after in a drunk stunt were he accidentally shot and killed his own son; he too was then shot. He was said to have married a woman from Virginia and then may have also lived among Native Americans depending on which version you hear or read. So could he have had children and thus my family maybe. It's just fun to say there's a pirate ancestor in my family and laugh at the idea because its something every family says.
