It has been raining… a lot! From the droughts of the summer to the floods of the winter. Portugal has been dealing with a lot of rainfall all over the country. We’re very lucky that we didn’t have that much problems with the rain. Stay safe everyone and I wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy holidays! 🎄❤️

My name is Debora and I moved to Portugal to start a new life. My sister and I bought an abandoned piece of land with a cottage and a barn on it. Our plan is to restore the farm and convert the barn into a home.
We’re nursing the land back to life after it has been neglected for so long. We left the city to live a more meaningful and simple life more in tune with nature. Being Spanish and Portuguese and moving here to Portugal, the land of my ancestors, has felt like finally coming home.
We’re trying to be more self-sufficient and trying to go off-grid as much as possible. Follow us along on our journey as we clear the land, renovate the house and barn, start a garden in the future and do many other projects.
Thank you for watching and joining us on our journey!

When the orange blossoms open you will enjoy the most wonderful aroma. My favorite smell.
Windows…I've watched other channels from Portugal. It always seems as if windows are mudded in (concrete/mortar). This becomes the primary sealant against weather. As a temporary solution (possibly) check the exterior frames of the windows. Tiny cracks or pin holes can allow huge amount of water infiltration. A latex caulking around the areas that leak might serve as a temporary fix till replacement is arranged. Some roofing tar/bitumen (ugly and messy) may be needed to temporarily seal around the sky light/flat roof window. Where the roof meets the wall…Mosses, algae and debris can lead to deterioration of concrete/masonry products. It's a problem area, magnified by the unprecedented rains. Yes….Gutters, gutters, gutters anything that moves water away from the house!!! Good luck. Take your time. You'll make it through this set back. Have a wonderful and safe holiday. P.S. We in Pennsylvania are jealous of you. Tonight into Christmas Eve morning we are expecting minus 14 Celsius. BRRRRR.
🥰
Yes I agree guttering is needed plus a seal for the skylight window , you need a steal for the underneath of the door or put in a real door in the inside then the storm door .
One positive side is that you get to see all the weak points before any renovation so you can plan accordingly to solve them all. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
I’m Spanish and Portuguese as well. My P family is from Faial and Pico and my S grandparents were born in Bubion and Estepona
Just stumbled upon your channel. The rain here in Portugal have certainly caused problems. Thankfully my land is ok but I’m off grid and rely on solar power and because of no sun I’ve no power which is causing issues 😢
Sorry about your water leaks it’s not nice when you find them. I have a few in my cabin too 🤦♀️
Looking forward to following your journey x
Merry Christmas! Hopefully the rain won't do too much damage to your beautiful home! Amazing having orange trees in your gardens! Looking forward to seeing what kind of trees your going to plant…
Weather is terrible everywhere!
I just had a major roof leak in my garage that I need to fix soon from all the rain, herd too!
It’s something we cannot control Mother Nature!!
Im sure it will take time to fix everything bug like you said you will concentrate on other parts of the place anc eventually things will get done !!
Happy holidays to you and your family too!
a leaking episode 😞
It is better to know all these leaks now !
Praying 🙏 for all your issues to be resolved and wishing you and your Family a Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Happy New Year
So sorry your having these issues! hope all turns out well! Merry Christmas:]
Thanks for updating us and happy Xmas to you all 🎄x
Happy holidays to you both,
Wow, a lot of water is coming in, hopefully it will be easy to fix. As you are half Portuguese and Spanish, why did you chose Portugal to live and not Spain? I'm curious, I'm Dutch and I live in Spain:)
So many people are struggling with the weather. I hope you are able to resolve those issues without too much trouble. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
You have lots of obstacles to overcome, between the rains, structurally and the bureaucracy around allowing renovations. You would think that having rescued a building that is a bit of a disaster that you could just go at it as you like. I guess same rules apply be it a castle or a run down farm house. Wishing you luck, looking forward to your spring garden. Love your plot of land with all it’s trees and many possibilities.
