Hello!!!! This is something I am curious about: people say that its hard to "ship" things to Madera Island when you order online… example: things for house or car. What exactly is difficult? To find diversity? Time of delivery? Availability? I am looking forward to sign up your patreon, however, I have no money for that right now. One dream that died for me is that I will get to sleep on a bed and have cold milk for tea in a fridge a week from now in my new house. That's because the dream of my local "interior designer" lifting a finger after charging me thousands to decorate my house, was just that, a dream. Turned into a nightmare. Thankfully I found a south african designer, who is a real designer, with design talent. Hopefully she can sort out this absolute mess – as a south african myself, i know we're not scared of work.

The high demand and low inventory for properties both rental and for sale was clear in my recent visit . My plan is to be flexible on the rental needed for my D7 application then once on the island I'll have more time to gauge real estate trends, find the right place, and also be able to quickly jump on a good opportunity. Madeira certainly isn't a secret, but I found it is still a very special place. My best to you both!

Politics… most foreigners we've met are still fighting old battles from the 'old country'. We've had some very bizarre interactions until we say we're not from the US. It's very easy for us to just shrug our shoulders and say… "I'm sorry we don't follow politics from other countries'. We very rarely watch the news unless it's about the recent floods or this year's forest fires – for example. We enjoy a peaceful stress-free life without media-manufactured dramas.

Totally agree with doing the D7 yourself! A family of 6 were quoted €30k for immigration assistance! Most of the work must be completed by yourself, whether you get a consultant or not. My advice is just to join some Facebook groups and start reading. The amount you’ll save could fully finance the first year here in Portugal! We’re glad we went this route!

The skyrocketing costs are indeed a reality and Madeirans, like locals everywhere, will come to resent the expats mucking up the economy and driving up prices. Nobody on here will want to read this but here goes… after too many decades in too many large American cities, where can I go to find our piece of Camelot without the American "sensibilities," if you catch my drift. And the politics… I'm done with the whole lot of them. There's not enough life left in these old birds to think we'll see a turn-around. Have you heard of the coastal property north of the Lofoten Islands? That may well be our best option, so keep it hush hush. We'll always be amongst your biggest fans though. XOXO
