Our family is now complete. Meet Elroy, our 4 days old Tràs-Os-Montes Mastiff. He was born right by our goat house on October 17-18th. For now, this Tràs-os-Montes puppy will be living with his mom by our goat house until he’s ready to join us around Christmas. But Theresa has permitted us to visit him while the mama is off working guarding the goats. In northern Portugal, these dogs are often referred to as “Pastors” meaning shepherds. This breed of dog is local to our region of Portugal and he’s a fantastic addition to our Portuguese Homestead.

37 weeks ago, we bought an abandoned farm in Tras-os-montes, North Portugal, and we’re building our dream house with a public garden, an ice cream kiosk, and our dream house optimized toward minimalist yet comfortable living. But we’re not just building a house – we’re bringing back to life an entire Portuguese Homestead and working on being self-sufficient.
