Now that we are sure we have our residency in Portugal the dream
of building a semi self-reliant life may be starting to become a reality.
We expect that ‘Mungo the Minibus’ will be our full time home for the next
year as we travel the UK and Europe, and whilst we work on our tiny house and land in Central Portugal.
Thank you so much for following our journey, love from Elaine and Darren.

Do you need an import licence for your seeds to be able to import them to Portugal? Lovely update!
If you rent your house out, where will you store all your stuff? I can´t imagine you can take it all to portugal?
What a nice update! Congrats also to Jade for graduating from uni. So, everything is coming together now in the final weeks. And to top things up – an upcoming scorching heatwave in UK🔥Hope you can spend the beginning of next week away from the worst heat. Take care! Cheers from Sweden ~ 20-25℃ most days here. / Katarina
Hi ,know your keen gardeners and looking forward to your move, I'm watching a lot of people struggling within the interior of Portugal with the extreme heat , hope your taking the right seeds, that will grow well in dry arid conditions, wells have not been as fruitful as expected and water for some is short, just want you to be successful on your new venture, I'm sure you have done your research, good luck, will follow your journey.
What an excellent couple are you, so complementary to each other. This is key to make sure you get into the most important and right plans for your future.
Hope the renting preparation will be a good start for your permanent staying in Portugal.
My best wishes to both of you and Max.
Congratulations on your daughter's graduation.
Frugal DIY, Free spuds and some inexpensive crumbles – nice!
Best wishes to you both I remember w hen our four graduated so pleased. I think secretly parents can pat themselves on the back it is a joy to see them doing well. Our fifth started uni and dropped out now aged fifty he is back another two years before he is finished. You cannot put old heads on young shoulders but better late than never! Exciting days for you both interesting to see all the work it takes to move to another country from Nana in Australia
Greetings from Costa Rica. 14 yrs. Ago we did what you are doing now. Only we brought a 40 shipping container of tools and household furnings. Of course our 3 dogs and ourselves flew and our container came by ship. We arrived 6 weeks before it did. So we camped out in our Costa Rican house and waited.
I understand how much work and planning and anxiety is involved.
My best wishes for a wonderful journey!
So Happy for you both that things are coming along. Right now, in Portugal, It's very hot there. You will be going there in September, a perfect time of the year. As always, Thank You for taking
us along this journey. Sending you lots of love💖💖💖 Harriet, Jim and Yuki. Richmond, VA.
Lovely to see your preparations are going well. The kitchen looks fresh & new . Good job! Good forward planning with those green manure seeds. Thats a new discovery for me. I guess the weather in the coming week here in the UK will give you a taste of the Portugal summer😁 All the best.
The kitchen looks beautiful!!! Wonderful job!!!
Greetings from Norway, where my oldest son is a beekeeper, and from whom I’ve learned that honey bees can’t utilize red clover, but they CAN utilize white clover. So, for the sake of the honey bees, perhaps you could plant some white clover, too, that will also benefit your soil‼️ ❤️🐝‼️
Hi Elaine and Darren, it must be quite emotional getting the house ready for someone else, but you seem to be getting on with everything, has Max figured it all out yet, my dog sits on the suitcases when we go on holiday, is Max going with you, has he had to have special jabs or anything, I wish you all the luck in the world 🌞🌞🖐👍
So exciting watching all your preparations Darren and Elaine, I bet you can’t wait to leave. Will follow every step with interest. Good luck with it all…
Have a good weekend….😎🇵🇹
Green manure is great for helping to get the soil back in shape. I get my seeds from Poland now, so much cheaper than the UK brands and the quality is excellent.
Your kitchen is looking good. You don't realise to begin with how much work and planning goes into moving overseas till you start the process but it will be worth it.
Good luck. to you both.🌹🌹🌹🙋🏻♀️
Hi there, very interested to see the seed choice. Are these seeds EU approved and have you checked that you can take them in to Portugal?
Getting very exciting.❤️❤️❤️
All getting very exciting.❤️❤️❤️
Lovely video you 2. Wow Elaine you've certainly been doing your homework about seeding. I bet you're champing at the bit to get started.
I must say though Max looked less than impressed with the kitchen assembly and Darren's maiden voyage with th strimmer😄😄
Looking forward to your videos💕💕
In what town do you live in England.?
You did well to order those seads, because same of them are dificult to get in Portugal… 👍🏻
Kisses… 💖😘
Great idea to start with your cover crops this fall . You could get some bags of cheap peas and lentils from the grocery store to add what you have all ready got .and maybe get a little veg from them .as well . In California Peas do very if started in the fall they must germinate and start growing before it gets too cold then they are on hold for the coldest part of the winter and as it warms up they take off and you are eating peas when everybody else is just planting theirs . I have grown beautiful sweet peas as well .
Nice seeds and strimmer, looking forward to see them used 🌱
Thank you for sharing and see you in the next one. Congrats with Jade ❤️🙏
Loved the bits and pieces.
