The “Golden Beach” is the main beach in the center of Sesimbra. It stretches from the port to a 17th-century fort, which separates it from Praia da Califórnia. It’s a favorite destination for the people of Lisbon on weekends, and, due to its shallow, clean and calm waters, it’s known as one of the most family-friendly beaches in Portugal. It can be quite crowded in the summer.
It’s protected from the wind by the slopes of the Arrábida Natural Park, and behind it is the maze of narrow streets of the old fishing town. On the promenade are seafood restaurants open throughout the year, most with outdoor seating facing the beach.
