It is located in Sesimbra and, to get there, it is necessary to walk a trail through the mountains of about 15 minutes. But it’s well worth the effort. The place is calm and pleasant, the sea is calm and the water is clear and crystalline, with intense and exotic colors.

An exotic and completely wild beach in the heart of Serra da Arrábida. There is no esplanade, there are no stalls, not even lifeguards.

In Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo you will only find a small strip of white sand, a turquoise sea with calm and crystalline waters and a simply breathtaking scenery.

Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo or Praia do Cavalo is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever visited on the Portuguese coast. The name comes from one of the huge rocks on the beach. Some say that the stone resembles the head of a horse. So, that’s where the name of the place comes from.

It is no wonder that some people compare Ribeiro do Cavalo to the beaches of Thailand or the Caribbean. The blue of the sea is really fascinating and the beauty of the place exceeds any expectations.

You only realize you’re not in the Caribbean when you put your foot in the water. After all, like every self-respecting beach in the Sesimbra region, the water is cold!
Ribeiro do Cavalo is located about 40 km from Lisbon, very close to the village of Sesimbra. However, there is no car access there. You have to choose between taking the boat route or a small trail.

If you opt for the trail, as I did, remember to dress appropriately as the trail, although short, is quite steep and full of rocks.

How to get to Ribeiro do Cavalo Beach
By boat or kayak

The fastest and easiest way to get to Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo is, undeniably, by sea. There are some companies that travel from Sesimbra to the beach using motor boats. The trip takes about 10 minutes and the boats leave from Cais o Espadarte.

The more adventurous and in good shape can also choose to take the kayak route. The advantage is that it is possible to visit other beaches, caves and coves along the way. Some companies have the complete equipment for rent.
