  1. Thanks Dough and Monique for your informative video! Also love the flow of your video, with coffee intro and Coral beer exit! Very glad to hear about the Pet Setter. Your honesty and friendliness certainly lights up my day! Boa tarde!

  2. Hi. Monique and Doug, great video we came in August and want to move next year do you have the contact information for your lawyer and buying a house who can we trust, as it's very hard to find the right person, do we get the D7 before we get the lawyer and bank account, thanks again Ray

  3. once again a super informative video! another person we would have needed the other day at an apartment viewing would be a portuguese/english interpreter, as unfortunately not all agents know english 🤷🏻‍♀️

  4. How exciting and you are going to love Lisbon! Great time to go too…Less tourists means shorter lines for many of the great sites! So, fun fact…Tamara, my name, is date(the fruit) in Portuguese and I love to tell them that so they more easily understand! Tremoços and olives are our new chips and salsa so we are on the same page about aperos!! Will have to try the beer thing…

  5. I watch all your videos and loved this one. It covered so many topics that I'm thinking of. We are visiting Madeira now considering if we might move here in the future. Tax is something that worries me and I'm wondering if I can get some general tax advice before commiting to a move and having to restructure my retirement investments. I was also interested in the pet care option. We had a trip out in the clouds on Thursday. Our guide took us to Fanal Forest which was magical in all the mist. Also we were introduced to the beans Doug enjoys with his beer and we really liked them. Tnanks again and keep up the good work producing these videos.

  6. hi D & M
great video. i can see you are getting better at editing and formatting your videos. as a suggestion for another important person to know is an optician.
looking forward to the next video
    all the best

  7. A very useful, practical and timely video. I have been in fact thinking about and looking into medical tourism lately cause one can purchase prescription drugs for personal use and get (non-emergency) health care overseas at a fraction of the costs in US, and with the savings take a mini-vacation at the same time. Thank you for sharing this information Doug and Monique. Keep up the good work.

  8. Another terrific and informative video; we're still a ways out from our move but are already thinking about all of the contacts and professionals we will need to make. I'm extremely excited to see your experience of Lisbon, as we find Madeira beautiful but think it is probably a little to remote/island-y to work for us.

  9. Ooooo, I'm super excited to hear about your upcoming home swap! That is something we are considering as well. So glad you're still posting a video every week, even past your one year anniversary. 🍻

  10. G’day
    Doug and Monique
It’s nice to wake up and see your smiling faces and it would be nice to communicate by e-mail to receive information about your contacts. Lawyer would be great.
I think with all the time and effort you spent with making contact lists we should be paying for your information. We would be happy to send a donation for coffee or cocktails for all the invaluable information you have provided

    Please let us know
    Cheers!

    Monica from Venezuela

  11. Dear Doug and Monique, just a small token of appreciation for your great videos always about retirement on the beautiful Madeira Island. I am glad for you as a couple that you are enjoying Madeira Island and that you have a successful retirement there. Wishing you all the best for the future. I live in Windhoek Namibia 🇳🇦, our country is between Angola and South Africa but I am considering relocating to Madeira as well soon. My parents are Madeiran from Porto Moniz but have lived most of their lives in Africa though. Some of the first pioneers to leave for Africa in the 1950's. My parents are still alive by God's grace, Dad is 94 and Mom 85. I am planning a visit this November to take them back to Madeira where they would like to spend their last year's. My plan is to also relocate my family back to our roots. It will be nice to meet up with you when I am in Madeira for a coffee chat. Chão and stay safe.

  12. This is one of the Best Videos covering the most important things an Expat would need upon arrival and settling down. You guys covered it so very well. I was amazed at the Dentist office for the state of the art setting, and above all the cost. In the US even with the Dental insurance from work, you end up paying a lot and for a $50 visit for consult and full clean up, and with out any insurance is a steal. I am eagerly looking forward to the Home Exchange that you touched upon and was wondering if you will open up your place to Expats for short term rentals while you are travelling outside Madeira. Once again a very good purposeful video. Thanks !!!
