Right before RESCALED lunch, good news were announced, RESHAPE will be part of a project to build a new house for people who are released, in Braga (North of Portugal). There could not be a better motto to have a conversation about “Houses or Prisons” between an architect, a musician and a former inmate, moderated by Helene De Vos (RESCALED). While Sabrina Puddu (KU Leuven) pointed out the architecture ambivalence and the discussion around the ideal number of people for a house, Johan Lothe (Wayback) stated the importance of trust in reintegration and sense of belonging, and MJ Paranzino (Liberty Choir) underlined the power of music to create community, “because when fear goes away, understanding develops”.
Prison Insights is an international event, co-organized by RESHAPE and Instituto Miguel Galvão Teles, that aims to promote a gathering for all those who contribute to the social reintegration of individuals who have had contact with the prison system.
This year’s edition was based on the motto “Please, mind the gap!” to question the distance between “us” and “them”, while finding ways to build trust, get people closer to communities, thanks to alternative methodologies that dismantle prejudices and approaches that support each individual in their reintegration.
