Why are so many expats leaving the Philippines for countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Mexico? Here are 7 reasons why I believe expats are packing their bags and moving on.
1. Cost of Living is Going Up in the Philippines
2. Age of Consent law changes have effected the dating market
3. Slow internet connections
4. Traffic
5. Pollution
6. Westernization of the Culture
7. Higher cost for companionship and intimacy

A Western expat who wants to live the way he is accustomed to and have money for entertainment
needs a minimum of $3,000 – $4,000 a month which almost always means a successful OLDER man.
The cost of living EVERYWHERE
The cost of accommodation has always been too high anyway
Transportation cost. Lack of quality food. Poor service. Slow internet. Noise. Pollution. Filthiness. Lack of intelligent infrastructure. Out of Stockiness everywhere you go. Filipino time concerning all matters of pleasure or business. I could go on and on but why??? My trip last month to the Philippines confirmed all of the above, which has led me to mark it off my list as a potential retirement destination. It has gotten worst over the years and will continue to do so.
Hey brother Flation is everywhere It doesn't matter where you go and that's a fact
I didn't have to watch much of this video to be in total agreeance with your COL reasons. We left the Philippines several years ago for a totally different reason, and now have serious reservations about returning to our home here (because of the costs)… at least on a permanent basis.
PLDT is Pampanga’s fastest internet provider– Ookla®

– A A +
PLDT Home remains undisputed as the fastest broadband network in Pampanga.
Dominating telco rivals, PLDT recorded top upload and download speeds of 65.38 Megabits per second (Mbps) and 72.03 Mbps, respectively, as verified by Ookla® of Speedtest Intelligence® data for Q4 2021.
PLDT Home’s speed leadership in Pampanga enables the province to thrive in economic activities that leverage work-from-home productivity. This includes remote work, virtual schooling, and remote entrepreneurship.
With 276,203 speed tests initiated by 73,671 internet users in Pampanga, the telco giant’s speed leadership was particularly strongest in parts of Angeles City and the City of San Fernando, as well as in the municipalities of Floridablanca, Mexico, Baliuag, and San Ildefonso.
“PLDT is relentless in its mission to deliver the fastest and most superior home internet services to key Philippine provinces like Pampanga, which is among the fastest growing economic powerhouses in Central Luzon. Indeed, the increased demand in the province for PLDT’s fastest broadband connection has been encouraging. As such, we’ve invested heavily as well in our capabilities to install, upgrade and repair so that Pampangueños can enjoy a better digital life with future-ready homes,” Senior Vice President and Head of PLDT Home Business Butch G. Jimenez Jr., said.
PLDT’s speed dominance in the country has been consistently recognized by the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ having swept the fastest broadband award for four (4) consecutive years.
The latest Ookla®Speedtest Awards™ Q3-Q4 2021 data showed PLDT garnering an overall nationwide speed score of 77.24, a huge jump from its speed score of 27.28 in the second half of the previous year.
Speed Score is a measure that takes into account both upload and download speeds.
To find out the network speed of ISPs, Ookla® compares data gathered from millions of consumer-initiated tests taken on Speedtest® platforms.
The data include tests done by Filipino internet users on various networks using digital devices connected via Wi-Fi and fixed networks. Each top carrier accounts for at least 3 percent of the sample size in the geographic area.
The telco giant’s aggressive network expansion and migration nationwide continue to power its speed upgrades and broadband service improvements.
In the second half of 2021, PLDT Home launched its biggest speed upgrade for customers with thrice as many speeds versus the previous broadband plans. In November of the same year, it launched the country’s first-ever 10,000 Mbps fiber-optic service in the Philippines, putting the country alongside first-world nations that have access to such ultra-fast home internet speeds such as South Korea, Japan, Sweden, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA.
PLDT Home continues to set the bar for the future of home internet connectivity in the Philippines as it provides access to future-ready innovations including top-of-the-line Smart Home solutions such as wifi mesh devices, and entertainment and security services bundled with its flexible broadband plans.
All these innovations are powered by PLDT’s widest network in the country with its fiber infrastructure expanded to 743,700 kilometers, extending its reach to 13.9 million homes passed, and with over 5.77 million fiber-powered ports.
To date, PLDT Home has connected over 3.6 million subscribers, proving to be the most trusted telco of Filipino families for fast internet speeds for work at home, online school, and family entertainment at home amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Take care and God bless
The problem is that most expats are not willing to adjust to PH cost of living. If you want to have lifestyle like in your country then stay home. You must adjust your lifestyle or go broke and that's everywhere you go to in world. Economics are simple only expats do not know how to adjust there lifestyle. Live comfortably, let go of your lifestyle in your country and adjust.
Sounds like lack of money for most is what I am hearing. I love it there and plan on moving there. Too many guys going just for the ladies. You can get women anywhere.
Inflation is international, thanks so much to cvd and the responses our govts took, but inflation is relative to the starting cost of goods and services, my home country has a less percentage of inflation but the starting prices were much higher so it's still way cheaper here, anyway, I just found your channel tonight, liked and subbed
I notice no one brings up the taboo subject of cleanliness. Such as what you can get if you " mess around" with the "wrong girl." Maybe you can provide some valuable info. Thanks
Thanks for the good work. Disappointing but very good points. I would suspect province girls are less money hungry. But I'd also bet modern conveniences & services there are very poor. Maybe you can supply more info on that.
Make separate video how on "girls marcket" now in 2022 with enforcing 16 y.o age of consent local pedo guys and men moved from 12-15 y.o girls into texting to 16-20 y.o and that 18-20 y.o feel like "hot commodity" now and much less villing to date old white men after 50-60 y.o. because they hope to find local man who talk to them in tagalog strait to they soul! And that is confirmed reality that for past 100s years local pedo men overused girls so much during 12-18 y.o that by the age age 18 y.o girl have not much chances dating locals and start dating 50-60 y.o foreigners .
I didn't get too far with this video as the utterly inane point about the Philippines being supposedly expensive because English is widely spoken, lumping it in with Australia, Canada and – randomly – Wales, was too stupid for words. By that 'logic' France would be a cheap country.
Yes the COL is going up in the Philippines, it's going up everywhere – rampant inflation is a global phenomenon. The alternatives you mentioned – Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand are all themselves seeing a massive spike in inflation and COL.
But my biggest objection is the misuse of the word 'expat' since the very next thing you starting talking about is the local women.
As an actual expat myself – someone who moved with a multinational company to Singapore 15 years ago together with my young family – I'm heart sick of evey degenerate sex tourist, 20 something digital nomad
or broke ass retiree labelling themselves "expats".
You're not.
If you're there for the young women you're a sexpat. If you're a retiree that can't afford to retire in your own country you're just that.
You're not a friggin expat.
Angeles City is a dirty polluted shit#hle let's be honest here. Those septugenarians wearing the same grubby t shirt everyday while they nurse a San Miguel at 11am and ogle some unfortunate teen age slum dweller aren't expats. They're degenerate predators. They're in Angeles for one reason only – the same as you are mate – and it's not the blue skies and stunning beaches
Anyway I think I've made my point. If you live in Angeles City you're likely many things but an expat isn't one of them.
Cambodia
are hitting you up for USA dollars
the girls
are asking for big money
it's not cheap and there very cold
Thailand
and the Phillipines are better value for money !
Great video! Some great points. However, some comments:
I wouldn’t be concerned about the vast majority of the Filipinos, specially those who are poor as your competitors. Any guy from the West, who is under 50, who has their acts together, should not be concerned about so called competition by local guys. The only ones who could be an issue are the elite but those guys are not dipping in the same pool for girls as most expats are.
I’m in Thailand now and things have become a lot more expensive than pre pandemic! Even in Chiang Mai!
For faster internet, especially if you are working online, you need to get your own fast internet. Problem solved.
I never had any issues with internet in the Philippines. Been there a few times, first time was in 2010 even back then I was able to watch things online and do video call from the hotels and airbnbs I have stayed at. Are you staying way out in the provinces or low end places? That could be an issue for internet but even then, getting your own fast internet should solve that.
Okey you just gave 7 reasons why expats are leaving the Philippines..So WHEN ARE YOU LEAVING.(good riddance).
Killing it on the uploads. Beast mode…
Well I paid $300 a month in the Philippines and after I pay all my bills and end up being about $650,700 on the low then when I travel you know against a little more expensive but I get the promos and fly around the Philippines me and my why we take the bus places and basically I'm retired so yeah the young guys might be leaving but the retired people are not leaving.
You speak very clear and are easy to understand thank you Brother
The Philippines is not for you if you dont' enjoy the traffic and the noise…
If you like to check out beach life, but dont like taking bus then there is van service from (or used to be) Orchid inn and Angel bakery going every morning to Barrio baretto. Also a turist spot, but a alot slower, some like me prefer it over Angeles.
if only youtube were around in the 50's 60's or 70's the philippines would outshine them all
As a visitor, I really like AC before Covid. I usually visit AC 5 to 6 times a year and go to Pataya 2 to 3 times a year.
However, Covid changed many things. AC is much more expensive than before.
I only plan to go AC once next year, and go Pattaya 4~5 times. Other East Asian countries once each (Japan/South Korea/Singapore/Maria/Indonesia)
I stopped the video at :17 because I already know that no countries want YOU. And by saying YOU, I mean YOU. #LOSER
my friends there also complain about the electricity prices and and the power grid with all that brownouts. Oh about the bars, there used to be designated smoking areas and was surprised you can smoke anywhere in the bar.
The Philippines is overrated. You'll get laid there for free but it's mostly low quality women that are not pretty, single moms, jobless girls, basically the leftovers. Sometimes you'll get lucky but if you want pretty girls you have to pay hookers or scam a freelancer.

This Dude is Disturbing… X 10000…

TJ Weak men are the problem. The Philippines needs tourism like the other countries you mention. However in any country if the men are weak that in and of its self cause hard times. Strong men create good times. What we are experiencing world wide is the end of globalization. What we are witnessing is the natural order of the 7 Hermitic Principals in our daily lives. All men need to focus on building their physical, mental, social, and spiritual strength and power. Keep up the good work. Every man needs a mentor.
Place is Disgusting.
I went once never to return due to feeling i had landed in an old 1960's gas station toilet, which it was proven to me as fact. Thailand is also a toilet, BUT a modern toilet……..
One of the biggest problems here are the seemingly endless number of expat vloggers who have been selling the Philippines just to increase the vloggers bottom line. It is a disgrace. They have been selling the line in their attempt to afford to live here themselves. There are times I wish Youtube didn't exist. Some of these vloggers are knowingly lieing to their viewers to keep their income up. Low lifes!
Out of the money
I'm surprised you didn't mention the food. But pollution is definitely a concern.
Phillipinos live longer than Americans. But y'all are scared of the air quality?
Great video T.J. hope to visit the Philippines within the next year year and a half… great information!
Can you take a trip to the province or show us what life is like there? Is Angeles City better for you because of the modern conveniences? Thank for your opinion!
Great video brother. I didn't know you were a seasoned traveller
keep it going brother. I heard japan girls also like brothers. Have you been there?
TJ, some people in the comments are uncomfortable with you filming women awkwardly. In my opinion, your approach can be a bit creepy. I would suggest that as you walk past and film, just say hello in the local language if possible, introduce yourself and keep attempt to talk about something that the locals care about or interview them. Don’t make it about sex or change your attitude with approaching them. We can, and admire their beauty, as you speak with them.
Also, try getting a haircut and look at your best, because women in the Philippines really care about personal self-care, and like well groomed men. Be confident.
I appreciate your eloquence, detailed explanations, and informative discussion, which is direct and to the point. Take care!
Hi TJ,
Thanks for posting this information. I agree with most of the good points you made. I have few points to add, below.
1) The city is quite different from the province in terms of less traffic, pollution, and westernization. There are tradeoffs between living in the big cities versus the provinces. Medical care, shopping options, and entertainment are easier to find in the city than in the province.
2) Some expats probably moved to the Philippines too quickly before they thought everything through.
3) It sounds like female Companionship is expensive with professionals. But, if you want a real girlfriend, they aren’t that expensive.
4) I have met some very nice young Filipinas, but I prefer a woman that is closer to my age. Maybe 30s and 40s. Some 40 year old Filipinas still look like they could be in their 20s.
I notice you said you believe in crypto dollars. Do you talk about your opinion on FTX on your other channel?
