8 Things New Zealanders don't do! Americans living in New Zealand and loving it!

New Zealanders are awesome! Living in New Zealand for 6 years I have come to appreciate the way they do life. I have picked up many of their good habits and values. People around the world live differently. It is great to take the time to explore some of the differences and the “why” they do things the way they do!

  1. My cousin is a Kiwi and trying to be mindful of at least that I care. They can have thin skin and sense of humor is a bit different in a good way. Thanks!

  2. One thing you will find I’d that Aussies and NZ have a sibling relationship. We will hammer each other hard, but if any other country buts in. We rush to each other’s defence. We are collectively very different to everyone else. FYI we don’t Tip people. We make wages,. FYI NZ is a beautiful place. Cheaper than Aus at.

  3. re: vowel sounds

as a kiwi, i've always found american accents to be weird with vowels too. you mentioned Auckland, and to me when you say it, it sounds like Ockland

i've noticed it's mainly with 2 vowels together – like whenever i hear an american say the name Craig, to me it sounds like you're saying Creg

  4. Lol we do use paper plates but more inclined to have extra dinner sets as we tend to have people often.. We likely detest cutting with plastic cutlery more! 😅
No we don't barter we find it rude in our culture..
Lol yes apparently Aussies and Americans mistake words.. We think you guys have weird accents not pronouncing vowels properly.. When we hear you trying to give your impressions of us saying fish and chips we often laugh because it's never the same.. 🤣We don't take offence more socially happy to laugh at you guys and ourselves

  5. Lol the accent thing we pretty chill 😃, as a kiwi I'm annoyed as well by the no price thing on houses, currently looking and I get tired of emailing them all asking for the price lol

  6. Haggling is more common in Auckland, especially on things like cars or second hand goods. But I've had plenty of good discounts on new appliances over the years. However, we tend not to negotiate at charity shops because it isn't right, they need the money. And if you buy an item on Trade Me, that's a binding contract, not an opportunity to arrive and haggle, like a few people seem to think!!

  7. I’m a kiwi but I think it’s fine for people to use paper plates (biodegradable or recycle) because if you have lots of over most people wouldn’t expect you to do Al the dishes. All my big family bbqs or baby shower type things everyone has paper plates. Just my South Island family?

  8. One tip for anyone going to America DONT SAY SWEET AS, my mate did it and the girl he was talking to thought he said sweet ass and went to file a sexual harassment report, and he tried to explain no I Said sweet as, they did not believe him as they were like who says sweet as.

  9. Um, as a Kiwi, i think you are gonna need to do a new video lady…. either your info is really dated, but seriously you got it wrong in most of your 'experiences'…!!!!

  10. As a kiwi, I think tipping and GST not being included in the advertised price would be the hardest for me to get used to if I went to America. Also, word of mouth and social connections are so important in NZ. My parents like to say "it's not what you know it's who you know".
