We just got back from a vacation around Andalucia and I agree with your food comments 100%. Finding fast food while driving long distances was challenging and expensive but very high quality when we found it (a bakery in McDonalds?! 🤣)… but I missed the variety of choices available here. But the fresh fruits and vegetables in Andalucia are absolutely incredible. I would kill for more strawberries from the market in Malaga! I definitely appreciated things about the US when I got home. (Shorter lines that I used to complain about, thinking they were to long!) But, I will definitely go back to Spain too. The people are fantastic, the seafood is amazing, and the history and culture are absolutely incredible.

Too much Amurica abroad already but I have to say thanks to Starbucks for wifi anywhere in the world. BTW a trick to rushing bureaucracy in South America—they love babies—borrow or bring your own baby to the DMV or government office and pinch him so he cries (I know child abuse) and they will rush you to the front of the line—my Brazilian born son still has bruises on his arms (not really — but he got me to the front of the line a lot).

But regarding the open spaces you are totally right, I life now in southern Germany and there are people and noise from infrastructure everywhere, even in the forest and mountains, you just can't escape civilization.

That about the difference in culture at work is very curious. Because in the United States there is usually moonlighting. On the other hand, in Spain there are many young people who do not bother to work, and yet in Spain there are millions of foreigners from underdeveloped countries working. In many cases in jobs that the Spanish do not want to do.

Es muy interesante y didáctico saber la opinión de los estadounidenses sobre las diversas costumbres en USA, España, Latinoamética, Asia, Europa, África, Oceanía, etc.
Pero tal y como están las cosas en USA, la neutralidad política no es posible para vosotros.
Vosotros tenéis un arma de opinión muy importante y debéis hacer todo lo que esté en vuestra mano (y en vuestro canal Youtube) para concienciar a los estadounidenses de que un cambio en la Segunda Enmienda que permite el uso de armas, es vital y urgente.
No podéis seguir atados al lobby de las armas USA MAGA republicano.
Esos son los asaltantes del Capitolio y los que están convirtiendo a USA en una dictadura fascista, porque la mitad de los ciudadanos USA votaron a un nazi hitleriano como Donald Trump, y vosotros formáis parte de la solución. Eso es muy grave porque Hitler llegó al poder en 1931 en una elecciones generales.
No podéis quedaros en los usos, costumbres, modismos y situaciones cotidianas (por muy interesantes que sean) y vivir de espaldas a un país (USA) que se desmorona, entre un Tribunal Supremo Neofascista MAGA y una sociedad consumista Kardashian-Paris Hilton-gala MET, que vive ajena a todo.
A mí me da miedo viajar a USA o enviar a un hijo a estudiar a USA. Es el Far West revivido, que nunca ha muerto. Pero en New York o California.
USA cada vez está más cerca de El Salvador, Honduras, Yemen, Mali o Costa de Marfil, y más lejos de Europa, Canadá, Japón o Australia.
Tú formas parte de la solución y no puedes seguir ignorándolo.

Por supuesto que la cultura deportiva en USA es distinta, no es lo mismo un partido de segunda división en Málaga que el NBA. Tambien tenéis vuestros propios deportes (baseball, American football). Aquí en 🇪🇸 tenemos los nuestros, soccer, tenis,balonmano, pelota vasca, traineras de Bermeo, toros etc…
Tienes razón con lo del tema de los adolescentes, aquí la cultura es más familiar, y los niños no abandonan el nido hasta acabar la universidad, y tardan… mientras que en la vuestra os emancipais antes, cosa que a mí me parece fenomenal y muy positiva. El desempleo juvenil es debido a los malos políticos que destrozan nuestro país y en vez de educar adoctrinan en ideología, venden nuestra industria a la unión europea que ese es un tema complejo. España ha cambiado mucho en sólo unas décadas. Los Españoles de 1960 con 25 años ya estaban casados, con una casa y con hijos.
La burocracia en los paises mediterráneos es lenta y mala, no siempre fue así, la raíz del problema es que el estado subvenciona vagos y hay mucho vago que le gusta trabajar poco y cobrar a final de mes. La burocracia en los países anglosajones funciona mejor en ese aspecto, he vivido en Inglaterra y lo sé, está todo más informatizado Y es todo mas simple.
El tema del espacio, es que aquí existe el concepto romano del "bloque de pisos", a la gente le gusta vivir juntos en comunidad, mientras que en el mundo anglosajón todo es más casitas independientes con tierra, y sobretodo cuando son países tan grandes como US, Australia or Canada que son países enormes, entiendo lo del espacio. Si te digo una cosa, aquí la gente adora vivir en los núcleos urbanos, en el centro de Ciudad, pero hay mucha tierra en España aunque nadie quiere vivir en lugares aislados y apartados y le cuesta ir a las afueras. Hay más concepto de espacio en vuestros países, pero aquí hay lugares muy desconocidos para el turista que son verdaderos paraísos.
En cuanto a la cultura de la bbq, realmente los americanos venís de un núcleo puramente anglosajón, es cierto que hay mucha inmigración europea, sin embargo mucha es del norte de Europa. Inglaterra siempre se ha distinguido por no tener gastronomía más allá del fish and chips, es decir nada! Y el norte de Europa tampoco la gastronomía es destacable. En ningún sitio de Europa comerás tan bien como en el sur y tal vez en Francia, de ahí para arriba la comida se va haciendo cada vez más básica y más grasa. Por eso estáis tan gorditos los useños…😉 Excepto tú! Que de beber tanto gazpacho ya pareces andaluz 😘 (broma).
Suele ocurrir que México lo tenéis más cerca, y muchos deciden ir a EEUU antes que a España. La comida mejicana es un mestizaje entre la comida nativa y la cómida española.
Otra cosa que quería decirte es sobre las propinas, el problema que veo es que alli los camareros son encantadores por el hecho de serlo? O por el interés de que luego le dejen el dinerito?. Pasa lo mismo que con el "gracias", in your culture you say "thank you" all the time and I think that is a positive thing, however a veces lo decís tanto que llega un punto en el que no lo decís de corazón, sino por sistema. En España cuando lo decimos lo decimos de corazón, en Inglaterra lo decían para todo y parecía "educado", pero llegaba un punto que en sus caras el "gracias" no lo sentían, era puro fake, fachada… Sé que no todo el mundo es así, y a ti te veo que cuando hablas con mi gente lo haces de corazón.
Por desgracia en España se ha perdido mucho con respecto al tema de la educación sobretodo en grandes ciudades.
Y con respecto a lo último así es, EEUU tiene una geografía impresionante también, a mí me encantaría visitar California, el Gran cañón, Florida, Nueva Orleans, Nuevo México…

Elliot no eres el primero que escucho decir lo de la secadora… Jajajajaa me hace gracia, yo tengo secadora en mi casa y mucho de mis vecinos también jajajajajajaja no sé por qué parte de España te estás metiendo jajajajaa pero ahora me entero que no hay muchas secadoras jajajsjjaja en España jajajajaj y no soy rico precisamente, y tengo mi secadora en la casa es más cómodo que tenerla al aire libre, si es cierto que aquí la gente con el bueno tiempo tiende la ropa en el patio, yo también lo hago. Allí en Estados Unidos siempre utilizáis la secadora y al ver las ropa tendida os extraña y pensáis que no hay secadoras, pero las hay y bastante!!!! Por lo menos donde yo vivo, y soy de Cádiz y mis vecinos también tiene secadoras, es cierto que en verano las tendemos fuera y se seca más rápido por el calor, pero en invierno o la mayoría de las veces yo utilizo mi secadora es más cómodo, y conozco mucha gente que también, supongo que depende de qué parte de España vayas no se… Lo de la secadoras me resulta curioso por qué la gente que conozco tiene la suya jajajaj, a mí de Estados Unidos me gusta todo la verdad es un país que me gustaría visitar, pero lo que no me gusta es la violencia armada!!!!!! Que hay allí y en Sudamérica… Nunca e estado en USA pero me a contado y tiene fama de que cualquier loco tiene allí un arma… Pistolas y esas cosas, que si tiroteos en el metro de New York por qué un hombre le da la gana de sacar la pistola y se pone a dispar a la gente…(eso pasó hace poco salió en las noticias de la televisión España lo del hombre en el metro de New York) o cuando llegan noticias de adolescente en los institutos que sacan el arma y se lía a tiros con los demás… Y la facilidad de conseguir un arma allí es preocúpate… Para mí forma de ver las cosas, yo te escuchado en unos de tus vídeos los tiroteos que hay casi a diario en barrio marginales, eso a mí me impacta. Es el único inconveniente que le veo Estados unidos la violencia de armas y la facilidad con que cualquiera pueda ir armado… Para protegerse y lo entiendo… Pero también los que no deben ir armados… Como los dementes lo van a estar!!!! Yo aquí me cuesta conseguir una legalmente… Tendría que ser ilegal… O si lo queiro hacer legalmente tendría que sacar una licencia de cazador y pasar un test sicológico y solo podría portarla para ir a coto de caza… Si la llevo encima un día normal podría tener problemas… Aquí las armas solo está permitida para seguridad privada o la fuerzas de seguridad del estado. Pero a mí me comentaron que si me iba a Estados Unidos podría conseguirla fácilmente un arma es verdad esto???? Que allí hasta un adolescente pude portar una arma de fuego??? Well, you covered way too much to respond to. But yes, over the last 9 months, I've missed some things. #1 is family and friends. While you lived in Madrid and now Malaga, I was in a small Mediterranean Seaside village. Transportation was a problem, but being right on the coast made up for it, plus the national park! My washer was way too small and of course no dryer. BTW my aunt in similar village in Italy actually had a dryer and I told her I'd never seen one in Europe and she commented that, she used the dryer to store her pots and pans! Yep, I checked. LOL. OK, Mexican food, I totally agree with you being an Angelino. Zero fast food, but I lost 4 inches on my waist. Anyway, I've been home in LA 4 days and I really miss Spain. 50% chance I'll get a non lucrative visa and move to like Toledo so I can get to any region by hi speed rail in 2 hours, or maybe where I was living where it's beautiful, people are fantastic and there's no getting around not speaking Spanish.

You have to remember the salaries in the USA is higher than in Europe in most countries and less taxes. I felt yes in some things in Italy Spain many things cost the same as there and some things cost less sometimes more!! They make less. Per capita income is 70,000 a year. Spain and Italy is half that. NY NJ 80 to 100,000 a year per person. England Ireland Germany and France, many items costs double. London after taxes people make 3600 and NYC 5500. I felt London cost more living there. I think cost of living surveys talk about food items in supermarkets in expensive supermarkets like Whole Foods. Italians I met felt quality clothes and electronics cost less than in their countries. Salaries are much higher in the USA.

Elliot, yes USA is amazing as well, I'm from Puerto Rico but been living in USA since 1995 and I have been able to provide for my family and have a comfortable life, not rich but nice living. Variety (food, places, people, weather etc.) is a big PLUS in USA, 50 States and hundreds of cities to choose from. Hey once again… please visit Puerto Rico and let me know with some lead time and I will go and meet you there to show you around my favorite places. Take care.
