Zixing City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, is managed by Chenzhou City and is located in the southeast of Hunan Province.

It got its name because the old county seat in the Tang Dynasty was located on the Bank of Zixing River (now Dongjiang Lake), and it is one of the birthplaces of Chen merchants.

Zixing City is located in the upper reaches of Leishui in the Xiangjiang River Basin, at the western foot of the Luoxiao Mountains and the southern end of the Chayong Basin, at the junction of Hunan, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces.

It is adjacent to Guidong County and Yanling County of Zhuzhou City in the east, Rucheng County and Yizhang County in the south, Suxian District in the west, and Yongxing and Anren Counties in the north.
