The Aceredo village in Spain’s northwestern Galicia region was abandoned in 1992 when a Portuguese hydroelectric plant closed its floodgates, causing the river Limea to flood the lands and buildings in the surrounding area, creating the Alto Lindoso reservoir. But the ghostly ruins of houses have reemerged as water levels at the reservoir are at just 15 per cent of its capacity amid a drought, with eerie photographs showing partially collapsed roofs reappearing from the depths of the lake. As the skeletal ruins continue to capture people’s attention, the location has become an unexpected tourist attraction, with holidaymakers arriving to see the leftover aspects of the former village.
