New Woodbine Motel AKA In the Mouth of Madness Motel
I have also just learned that this motel was featured in the movie In the Mouth of Madness, a well known John Carpenter movie from 1994.
The motel seems as though it ceased operations in May of 2021.
The abandoned motel didn’t look like much from the outside and the inside did not leave much to be desired either. The lobby was very simple but seemed to be reasonably clean, despite having what looked like to be some budget renovation work, the rooms upstairs however were a different story. It appeared as though they were for long term tenants since they had rather simple kitchenettes and two of the rooms had a shared communal bathroom. The outside of the doors were filthy and some of the units were just as gross, with dirty hot plates and bathrooms that looked as though they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Back downstairs there was a living quarters that looked as though it belonged to the owner or maybe the live in operator of the motel. It too seemed to be have been furnished on a budget but it was clean and it appeared as though they left everything behind except for their clothes. There was also a full size kitchen and the refrigerator had picture of children from World Vision, I would imagine that they were kids that the owner had sponsored. There was also a note in the lobby talking about a water quality test that had revealed elevated sodium levels in the water. I am not entirely sure what will become of this property but I doubt housing is in the future because of the less than desirable area. The motel was demolished not more than two weeks after my visit.
Here are a few reviews I found from patrons over the years, with an average rating of 2.6/5, they were less than favourable.
“It’s okay for a quick romp but not to stay overnight” 2/5
“The mirror was dirty, the window had a face print on it, there was an empty bottle of booze above the fridge. The water in the shower was salty, it irritated my skin badly. The receptionist was yelling at workers, when guests came up he yelled “what do you want?” He was yelling the whole time he talked to me, was not friendly at all. I won’t be staying again. The room was cozy and it is a nice looking hotel though.” 3/5
“Disgusting” 1/5
“Lowest of low. Cold bathroom floor. Plug in heater. $2.00 cheap pillows….you get what you pay for.” 1/5
“I live here and I work here.” 1/5

Looks like squatters to me.
I don't know if I'm right, but I have seen older motels, where the owner/or manager lived there, so the rooms behind the office, may of been where the person who ran or took care of it, lived there. I lived in a long term motel, and it had a big front room, small kitchen, bedroom, and bath. It was suitable for two people. That's my thought. Interesting place.
Nice shag shack! Google Viewed it to see the transitions.
I am taking a shower after I finish watching this and I am going to be even more grateful that my house is OCD clean. Haha
Oh God the fridge!!!!! Yiiikess
This one is freaky. It feels like someone was there recently or still comes by.
👍🏻👍🏻
People traffickers, had to leave in a hurry, ran off to Mexico i'd guess, authorities closed in on them and rightly so,, maybe even baby traffickers/child traffickers..
Actually, I believe the owners of the hotel lived in the back. That's how it's usually set up in older hotels. Good one! 👍
It would take me everything I had to not redo that shit, and open it just to see what would happen and make some under the table cash lol
Must have been quite a place.. sure it has been torn down…. Nothing really to save..
Is it in a town ?? & where everyone go seems like they lived hard
Stove looks very nice
Great explore! Drove past there many times years ago. Each time it looked a little more run down. Not sure which was worse, the bag of milk, or the disturbing non-moldy loaf of bread 😂.
Great job documenting this shady motel! Thumbs up from me 😊 Ps. Loved the bloopers in the end

Google maps had a sign near the road saying SOLD, map dated 6-2021 so it fits with the calendars May 2021. And Jeff Hitchcock on Flickr said the motel was in a movie Mouth of Madness, don't know about that. Wonder what the owner is doing now?? Cool video!
That would have been an motel owner's apartment. No motel has that kind of public space. That was certainly private. It's sad. That lit mouse still blinking.
You might want to block that "Don't Worry" song, before the YouTube algorithm finds it and kills your video. It's around the 6:00 minutes point.
Thank you James, for this explore. It was different than the others. It was still great to see what was left. Greetings from Doris in Australia 🙂
I just drove by where this motel used to be yesterday and wondered what it looked like inside. Thanks for the tour.
I grew up just south of there and that land was all farms 50 years ago. The stuff left behind makes me think that the owners plan to re open some day. Hmm, there's a lot to be said about home made bread, ugh. I'm also thinking that some of the residents may have been associated with the racetrack.
Oh James how could you sit on that bed? You don’t know who used it and what they
did on it. EWW. This motel was kind of cool and very sleazy. I thought it was clean and
OK until you went upstairs and showed us those filthy rooms, some filthier than others,
rooms. Judging by looking at those rooms it was probably a place to bring a hooker I
mean after all you did find condoms. I was glad that basement was flooded. Who
knows what creepiness was down there. Probably rats. That refrigerator that you
opened with the bugs in it was soo soo gross🤮. I think they probably left all their
stuff there was that they sold this classy joint LOL and got enough money to start
over elsewhere. I certainly wouldn’t want anything from that sleazoid place. I
could be wrong but it looks like you go to these places alone, I hope I am wrong.
I don’t want to sound like your mother but you never know who you might meet up
with like squatters. This video was interesting and as always enjoyable.
Just a suggestion when you get home don’t wash those clothes you wore
BURN THEM.🐀
