Salaries are pretty dreadful everywhere, not just Spain, but it's been a real problem in Spain for a long time and with the cost of living going up it highlights it even more. Nevertheless, I still see masses of people paying $10 euros for a hearty menu del dia (and that's a good price) instead of making sandwiches and complaining about the cost of living. I've been writing about this for years and it's not just Spain. Far too many young people are leaving education with poor qualifications and without the least idea how they will make their way in the world. It's not so easy for those with qualifications either but they have better options. It's not just young people. If you need to find a job in your 50's good luck to you without a suburb cv. Long term employment options are a real problem in Spain.

Saturday and the bite, on the side of my beer-gut, was still very painful so I scootered off to Órgiva A&E to practice my Español.
The doctor was really excellent, she lanced it and dressed it then typed out two sheets of A4 which detailed the whole affair, and a third which described my antibiotics, cream, histamine pills and pain killers for the pharmacy across the road. The treatment was free, the drugs were a tenner which included some forte cannabis sativa pills which I hoped might add a little jollity to the recovery.
Once I landed at my dentist´s just before opening time and he smoothed off a chipped tooth for me, again – no charge.
When you´re 72, and " principalmente madera muerta," It is reassuring to know that such an accessible and high level of medical care is there for you. ¡ Gracias España !

I live in Northwestern US. My daughters two bedroom apartment was $800 US a month, and at the end of the year was increased to $1300 US. ( I think about €740 to €1200) so this problem is here, too. And of course her salary did not increase by that percentage.

Portugal has a 4 euro for each adults tax but it is nothing compared to places like San Diego CA where it can be from 1/3 to 40% of the price of the room and no matter hotel or motel its a resort fee /tax. You pay 1,500 to to 2,000 for for 3 to 4 nights if you got a good deal, but on top of that you have to pay that resort tax when you check in. So will take your 2 or 4 euro tax over that.
