Kimi Zoet

PADA Studios Artists-in-residence Kimi Zoet (b. 1997) is an illustrator from London, UK.

“Fictional, otherworldly narratives sit at the heart of my works. I use storytelling to explore my emotions and curiosities, bringing them to life through drawing, writing and found objects.

I am drawn to childlike perceptions and narratives; growing up bilingual and with learning disabilities, I always felt at home in simple illustrative books. I try to emulate the experience of reading children’s literature through my work.

My work explores the power of my imagination. I often look to my childhood self to comprehend my adult life. Our minds approach obstacles differently as we grow up; in our adult lives, we will often turn to fact rather than fiction to gain a tighter grip on reality; my question is, is that always the best way to understand ourselves and the unknown.”

PADA is an Art Residency & Gallery based in a post-industrial site near Lisbon, Portugal.
