Come inside and take a look at my off grid stone barn conversion in Central Portugal! I’ve been hard at work for over a year and I want to show you inside my ‘house’ which is a huge work in progress. I’m using natural building and timber framing techniques to make my dream tiny home and I’m loving the process and all of the learning along the way!

OMG, I was laughing so hard sometimes! Was telling my husband, look honey, this would be me without you around, having a house full of stuff, half of which I forgot about and all kinds of still to finish projects. Oh and a wood burner would be my very first installation, I love yours with the oven.
I love your humor, please keep posting videos. Maybe we'll meet sometime because we are planning to move to Portugal too (bit more further north though), also planting a food forest and one or more renovating projects.
You go girl!
Great tour, so much respect for how much you manage to get done whilst working in limiting conditions! There are so many jobs I just haven't done because I can't face the hassle of working in a cramped space and the shuffling around of 100s of items that would be required 😂So true about what you can get used to though!
I love your independent spirit and ability to get on with it… I,m guessing you are into stage 2…ditto…I look forward to more videos …Robert from Australia.
im looking for someone who will go halves on a large property up to 40k euro..there are 100s of these properties for sale in portugal..
You Go Girl. Nothing to be ashamed of..Living of grid can start hard but at the end it will be worth it..Everyone must start somewere. It shows that you work hard. Love watching you from Cape Town South Africa
What a cliff hanger!!!
Love your journey!!!
Great video. Lived through a self renovation in nyc and feel your pain with unavoidable dissary. It does end. Though when we retired to portugal we bought a place that didn't need much work. Keep up the great work
Loving your videos Kirsty. Have a look at Martijn Doolaard's videos where he is restoring small stone barn/house in Italian Alps. He has same window type there also.
Well, i live on a buildong site, and i can safely say, urs is very well organised
The. verdict is in: regardless of physical and economic constraints you need a shed, a pergola and a fly screen. 😆 The commentators have spoken.
Great videos! Is cob heat/fire resistant? Look forward to watching your progress.
It’s a beautiful place and once the pergola and the vines will cover the front it will be gorgeous. I really like the stove and the hearth you built . The rest still needs a lot of imagination but I look forward to seeing the progress. What an amazing project!
Plant a male kiwi please
Hey Kirsty – enjoying your journey! You mentioned growing asparagus in a recent video – no you don't cut them back – here is my link to some help on them…if you have any homestead growing questions – just ask. I live in a rural remote abandoned village in Cyprus and live frugal Off grid – doing everything by hand at no cost. Hope you have time to take a look and get some ideas……here is the asparagus link

Geckos really need their own place..who knew…lol. You've got water, electricity, a poo bucket, 4 walls, heat, and a bed…all's good! The journey is going to be amazing as you transform the barn into your vision. Cheers from Canada!!
So glad I stumbled upon your channel 😍
Your small house is nice and we all agree you need a shed not only to store some of the building junk and assortment of odd stuff but fir safety, building material isn't always safe when it's piled up next to living space. We couldn't put our finger on it but it's your sarcastic attitude towards life and lifestyle, that we find funny, keep on trucking lady!!
Beautifull views from your olive tree.
I'd be hard pressed to do any work with that lovely climate. Just one more beer please!
Just a little warning. We have had some house fires in Australia where the back up batteries have overheated and caused serious house fires. Make sure you check out the best thing place for the back up battery and any safety rules you are to follow e.g if the batteries should be outside.
Wonderful tour! Very beautiful summer destination!
Hi, thank you for your videos. I love the calm relaxing delivery and content they’re awesome please keep them coming. It’s great to share your progress and journey.
You've accomplished quite a variety of works on your own👍🏼.
It looks like 'functional chaos' to me 😜…
MUCH prettier view. You pop with the view background.
I feel like cheering you on this adventure. What an undertaking and I admire your vision and courage. Best wishes and truly enjoy following your journey.
Olá! Bem-vinda a Portugal
Your videos are adorable! I was excited to see a new one.
Love it!
😂🤣😂🤣 you do make me laugh
It’s called an organised mess but as you go it will sort out
My craft room is like this 😁
Hi, well done. Please can you share were you got your wood stove build ? Thanks.
Re: all the shed comments – I bet you could scrounge enough materials for a basic shed for next to nothing. Building sites, recycle places, sawmill cutoffs, marketplace are all possibilities. In the U.S. pallet wood and old fencing can be had for nothing. Just curious – how is an American so totally fluent in the metric system?
You are crazy but i love your aventure in portugal. i am following you with pleasure.
I'd like to know more about the weather. Is it consistently beautiful? How hot? How cold? Did you say how you came to be in Portugal and how you are able to find the initiative and the knowhow to do such a thing?
Hey I love your video. I think you are doing a great job. I can see the amount of work you have put in the house and outside. The infrastructure and the details are the most time consuming ones. I can see that you are putting down the essential: woodstove burner for warmth, solar panels for energy, drainage… then there is also the outside to deal with, veggies fruit trees…. I currently own a allotment and know how time consuming it is….. you've done a lot! 👏. Plus I can see you are the real deal. new subscriber here.
Beware of the brown recluse spiders🕸
hi and greetings from Ireland I am retiring in July this year and thinking of getting myself a small house to remodel and living off grid wishing you all the best and kind regards
Maybe consider building a warehouse shop/ shed to store all your building material and tools first ? Then you can clear out the house and have a place to store materials out of the elements as you build and be more comfortable not the house . I’ve watch loads of these renovation channels and they all say they should’ve or they do built a place to store stuff first . So just passing this idea on to you . You can also buy temporary tent to store stuff . For your consideration.
your sense of humour really impresses me,lol…keep up the good work 🙂
Another good job with this video, well done. You have obviously figured out the two types of start-up/self-sufficient/off-grid videos… there's the "how to" or "how I do" category and then there's the "voyeuristic" look behind the scenes. I more enjoy the former but am sure the latter gets people interested, hooked and subscribing. The choice is yours, but maybe a balance is best. For what its worth, I strongly recommend creating a separate covered space/shed for storing tools, materials and bits'n'bobs. I was lucky enough to have a separate shed and believe me, it's demand for space only grows… and grows! A gecko's diet, as I am sure you know, is flies, so yes, co-living essential! Last tuppence worth… it's pronounced hearth, as in heart. 🙂
Your happy disposition comes across so well. Thanks for sharing your enjoyable walk around.
You're amazing. Might want to go back and explain how the cob wall will absorb and retain heat, regardless the color of the clay!
Loving the videos. Your house is a wee treasure trove. Suggestion ( Please don't cringe ) perhaps a polytunnel would be useful as an outdoor shed. You can work in it during poopy weather and claim some space back for yourself. Much easier to build too. As for the sexy time Gecko's, straight to the naughty corner. I heard it's raining men, but not Gecko's . Stay productive.
living in a building site is always messy and cluttery, noone should be judging on that, you are living 10x more than most others in their fancy homes… you are keeping it real 😀 I appreciate that
Clay, sand, lime, plastic table, wood stove, laptop…..its what every interior really needs 👍👍👍
Coming along nicely. Not sure if your aware, but another YouTube channel is almost at the end of their Portuguese Stone barn conversion, you should check it out.

I love your vlogs and can’t wait for the next one. Have you considered opening a “Buy me a cup of Coffee”? It’s a nice way for we viewers to show our appreciation in a small way. Am hoping you keep creepy door for the shed you’re going to build 😉
🙋hi from Scotland ,hi Kirsty thank you for another great vidio oh my what a lot of work you have put in to your lovly wee house it's going to be amazing I can see how it is going to look like it all takes time and your so amazing that your doing it on your own so we'll done see you on the next one cheers 🍷🍷 Anne Scott from Scotland take care
Love seeing reality of living in a workspace.
Beautiful view from your front door.
Thanks for sharing your tiny home… I see the potential😊
I see days of work for you and I look forward to seeing the progress.
