  1. Sadly has been a problem for many many years Spain has this reputation since time and memorial very hard to get rid of this reputation, it is not just made up it happens so so much.

Vote with your feet many places that have very little crime that's what i choose, pay your hard earned money to go on holiday and get robbed.

CROATIA is far better very little crime and people who really like u.

You can make your own suggestion stions from that, cleaner and more beautiful beaches and sea.

Why go to a place where to locals don't like you??. I vote with my feet

  2. Another day, another negative clickbait title about Spain, as though the rest of the world is perfect in comparison. Yes, you can find pickpockets in Barcelona and Benidorm. I've experienced attempts at it there, especially boarding crowded trains or the metro. But also been pickpocketed in Madrid, Budapest, twice in Amsterdam, Detroit, Atlanta, and yes, in Brexit paradise, London and Manchester. Name a f..king popular tourist spot anywhere in Europe or the World where you're immune from pickpocketing, especially ones with obscene disparities in income levels, such as Mexico and Bangkok.

  3. Do citizens from Barcelona perceive that there is a problem with crime in their city? The quick answer is NO. The reason is that pickpockets only target tourists and they are generally localised around Las Ramblas, places that the locals avoid.

  4. Hi Stu, we have leased/rented our cars in th UK from 1990 and when our current lease expires in August we will take it back to the UK, then get one in Spain. It's a no brainer as you get to keep your lump sum deposit in the bank and the car payments are roughly equal to what your hire purchase or loan payments would have been. At the end you usually have the option to buy also.

  5. Surely corruption in public life is nothing new in Spain? Don't most Mayors get replaced / jailed after a couple of years in office? Probably similar in most countries. 🤨

  6. Was gutted I missed the live stream today.

pickpockets in Barcelona are sadly a part of life here.

However 96% of it can be avidoed by basic common sense.

its very frustrating to see tourists just leaving themselves open to be robbed or things just taken off them.

I have tried to tell people to take care and I am just looked at most of the time like I am a thick….(…..).
the only people that seem to be grateful are locals when you remind they have left their rucksack open etc.

In any big city, when you are out with your expensive phone, it's always a good idea to check what is happening around you first.

Maybe ask someone where a place is rather than following your phone like its a transponder from star trek , you may find they maybe to speak some English and be proud to show you.
A friend met his wife this way when she asked him for directions

When out in a big city avoid taking out more money than you need.

I am also sure many take advantage of barcelonas reputation to make fake insurance claims.

  7. When walking the Camino del Norte in 2019, two favorite places on the way were Ribadesella (East of Gijon on the coast) and the beautiful little fishing town of Tapia de Casariego, in the far West next to the Galician border. Oviedo is overrated IMO and Gijon is part industrial but underrated; a lovely city with many beaches. Asturias is also the home of great apple cider served with aplomb.

  8. When I was first in Spain in 1975 (golf in Costa Brava), Franco was still just alive and there was zero crime; you could leave your car windows open and apartment doors unlocked. Democracy has its downside it seems.

  9. Great job Stuart.

On my arrival in Spain, we had (family) all passports, money and mobile phone stolen at the car park of Terminal 1, Madrid airport.
There were 3 thieves, one distracted, one who took the backpack, and a third to hold me.
They had it all figured out, well planned. Terrible

    Take care everyone.

Tiago from Sao Paulo and now from Boadilha Del Monte too.

  10. Hi Stuart, Been a regular visitor in Barcelona for over 12 years and seeing robbers is an almost daily event especially on crowded buses. In all that time they got me once on the metro – wallet, cards and a bit of cash. Despite that I love the city and apart from this feel pretty safe walking around. By the way in a recent video you referred to a news item about the Spanish govt. deciding to allow cash transactions and making it illegal to demand card only payments?? Perhaps I got that wrong but would be grateful if you or anyone could point me to that particular video – it was in the last week or so. Cheers.

  11. Barcelona is rife with pickpockets and nothing much seems to get done about it and the CEO of Spain‘s biggest pharmaceutical company gets caught with a fake jab passport and the majority still don’t question what’s happening……

  12. When I lived in Barcelona I did not experience any robbery or a strange situation but I know it happens. I’m from Venezuela so I’m always aware of those issues. In the other hand in Paris I’ve felt unsafe and got into 3 shady situations myself. Never coming back to a beautiful but unsafe city.

  13. Hello from Costa Blanca. We were in Valencia for the amazing firework and burning frenzy- While waiting for the official tour of Ninots, I noticed a few people scanning the crowd of waiting tourists by the bill ring. When the tour was finished, my girlfriend noticed her bag was open and her purse gone. We were so peeved the words fail me. 300 cash,TIE cards, Health cards and other valueless stuff. We went to police and got the whole document stuff in place. Went back to the same place 3 days later and the same gang were there ready to pounce on more unsuspecting tourists. I was going to approach therm but decided it was probably a bit dangerous. I took pictures of these guys. I am sure the police could figure out who these scum are. Anyway we have all the docs back after ages of paperwork and racing about apart from cash of course. Bit of a diatribe but hey. Be careful. I thought I thought I was streetwise. A wake up call.
    Love the channel.
    Rgds Mike

  14. Every country in the world has some sort of crime, getting rid of it is probably impossible…But if you keep your eyes open etc etc then you have less chance of becoming a victim…But governments Rob us everyday of tax etc….. Tony cuenca

  15. Look the employment situation is rife worldwide let’s concentrate on reform Spanish people are not bad but like the fox when the fox is hungry the fox will try to feed itself it’s a global problem not a Spanish problem for crying out loud why can’t we do a job share programme where as U.K. residents go to Spain to work live learn the language and Spanish people can equally do the same. I know B***** has dampened things but let’s try to rise above this criminally endorsing vote is holding us all back only encouraging a last resort as a way to making ends meet, please let’s set up an educational system to let us all human beings a chance to have a better life it’s not difficult even I could set this up

  16. I had my passport and mobile phone stolen at Malaga Airport but this was from an English person I would still love to live and work in Spain and would love to get some advice how to do so after B****

  17. The rental option you mention sounds like an interest model. You don't have that in North America.
When the rental contract lapses, do you get to buy the car for the depreciated amount?
What happens to the car after you give it back?
