Hi guys, I am Alex.
I am an Ukrainian expat who moved to Portugal.
No one in my family ever did any farming, But I discovered that I am very passionate about farming so recently I’ve purchased this 28 hectares Farm in Central Portugal, with the intention to start a small scale farm raising worms, cows and sheep.
In this little farm I am also planning to build an off-grid home, and be as self sufficient as possible, by growing my own food.
I created this channel to share my journey with the world, The journey of a first generation farmer, that is starting with no prior knowledge and experiences.
That maybe all the mistakes that I will make along this journey, and all the fails maybe will help some of you to learn from my mistake and not make them yourself.
I want to bring value and inspire people who are thinking about farming.
I am not a filmmaker or an editor, I am just a simple guy with a camera.

In this video, My father and I will be continue to clean one of the abandoned ruins on the farm, so we can prepare it and start renovating it.
We will be renovating it and reconstructing it by ourselves, so there will be videos of that in the future too 🙂

I would remove the part of the wall that is falling down and put in glass doors so the house will get lots of natural light.

Just discovered your vlog. You have found a gem when I look at the stonework. You could use a iron pole to act like a levy to move the big stones. So sorry to hear that you Dad has hurt his back. Wishing him good recovery and you and your family all the best🌺👍🌺

Already after two videos I am so excited to see what happens next. I have followed The Indie Project through their rebuilding process of an old barn in central Portugal and they have done a marvellous job. Your place is way bigger. There is so much potential in your ruin..

Wise move not to take that stone outside, yet… I’m sure it will gave to go out sometime, but only when you are ready. Rebuild your walls first and decide what you want for a roof. The floor comes later.

You using a wooden prop, but you actually should use stronger metal ground pegs, when we did under piling on a previous house, we owned they used wooden sheet boards, as well in front of the props, we call it temporary piling, as they back filled, not quite what you doing but they do it when they working on unstable walls, and to strengthen foundations, anyway it is good you doing this in dry weather as water would make those boulders more unstable. We very fortunate we have builders who come with small diggers etc, you can even hire them here, it seems only big builders or contractors have that equipment in certain areas, in Portugal 🤷♀️ all that labour by hand is way to intensive for just anybody in my humble opinion, maybe hire in some extra help just for the clearing, hope your dad is ok ☺ 😚
Hello Alex… I would knock down that unstable wall… And I would rebuild it again and put in a large window… I would also do the same with the other wall that is attached to the door… With regard to the stone I would cut it and I would reuse it on the wall… I hope to see the next video soon… Take care and your father too… Greetings from Almeria-Spain… ✌️✌️

Hi Alex nice to se the pile cleared but see that you guys take good care of yourself. Health is first then the restoration. Tel your dad to take it easy and slow.. I think u should restore that collapsed part from the base. The heavy stone would be of good use at the base of the wall it will make the wall strong too

I think a small tractor/loader is such a back and labour saver and, an eventual necessity on a small farm.
Makes us all wonder how they managed years ago.

Sorry to hear that your father pulled his back. I hope he recovers soon. I can see why it happened. That pile of stones is a job and a half to do. Are you going to rebuild the stone wall using the recovered stones? Also, great idea for getting the stones in the barrel without killing your back. I will have to remember that one. No need to drag that stone out. Get a piece of plywood big enough to lay it on. Put down some well rounded thick branches, put the plywood on top, then push over the stone onto the plywood and roll it over the thick branches by pulling the plywood with a rope. Replace the blanches at the front as you go along. I've used this method to move large items across my property.
