This isn’t a self build that we are attempting ourselves, No, but using a local architects and construction company and working with them to achieve out goal of a comfortable, eco friendly home using sustainable materials. The aim is to make it blend into the surrounding countryside, even though it is not using traditional Portuguese building methods.

We bought the land and are using the services of a brilliant architect and his construction company, but making many of the design and material decisions along the way.

The planning and permits can be a bit of a minefield, but with local help we have finally reached the start of the build phase.

The ground works on our wood frame house in Portugal has begun, and the start to get services to the job site. It may take a while to get electricity connected so may need to use a generator to help get the build underway.

First steps are to build the ‘technical wall’ to house the services required for the job site and house.
