As a US citizen who lives in Mexico, absolutely we should open up immigration to everyone who wants to make America better. But, we need to use immigration as a tool to raise wages, not lower them. It’s not that Americans don’t want to farm, it’s that they don’t want to farm at sub $20/hour.

We should never shut the door on immigrants, but we should require immigrants to be paid at least $20/hour full time to have a valid work visa, even if they work in Impoverished Arkansas.

If we treated immigration like surge pay, that could place upward pressure on American wages. Require immigrants to be paid 125% the median wage, and use it as a way to raise wages in all industries.

I believe anyone with good intentions and a good job offer should be allowed to come here. The only work visa limit should be only for infrastructure reasons (not enough housing, electricity, water, roads/transit, etc) to support the influx.

Our demographics suck although they are better than other countries like Germany or Italy or China.

Second is energy security. We are better off than either Europe or Asia. Next is food security, we produce more calories per crop than any other country in the world. Lastly is topography. We have river way and water in the Midwest that allows movement of commodities and goods at a lower price.

Something you haven't touched on is, in the very near future automation will likely start taking over large parts of EVERY industry. Many cities have pilot projects for auto-driving taxis and shuttle buses, many food producers are also looking at atomization, which means you cut in half your workforce..

When Elon came to the US, it was a great place for the entrepreneurial spirit, and he made great use of the opportunities here. However, he apparently thinks that is still the case, and encourages others to do so. Sorry, but it just isn’t. The culture is simply not there as much anymore. People with high education or high wealth should be able to move to the USA because they will not be a burden for the country.

But when it comes to poor immigration then It's just simple math that not a single country in the world can have open borders, you can never let in more people than you can afford to take care of, especially when there already are no jobs, housing, room for in schools, healthcare or social care and the list goes on and on and on, otherwise it will be too huge stresses on society and the welfare (which it already is) and the country's economy will collapse and then you have turned your country into a third world country just like the countries the poor people are fleeing from and then you have global poverty.
USA already has enormous problem with powerty, criminality, healthcare, social care, schools and the list goes on and on and to just continue to let in more people than you can take care of will only lead to more poverty and misery and the end of USA as a world power and first world country.
