Make It Marathon looks inside three New York City apartments renting for $1,300 to $5,150 per month.
Elena Taber, 23, lives with two roommates in a 3-bedroom apartment in New York City’s East Village. Together they pay $5,150 a month in rent. Elena works as a full-time YouTuber and pays $1,850 for her room. She moved into the apartment in February 2019.
Nikki Lee, 26, lives with her husband Dyllan in a 1-bedroom apartment in New York City’s Gramercy Park. Together they pay $3,800 a month in rent. Nikki works as a data scientist at Spotify and Dyllan is a lawyer.
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Nikki was used to her two architect parents pointing out design details in homes and buildings in their neighborhood. That appreciation for design was a blessing and curse when it was time for Lee to look for her own place in New York City with Dyllan. She wanted a one-bedroom apartment on the second floor of a building, a preference she admits is “weirdly specific.”
Hattie Kolp, 29, lives in a 2-bedroom rent-stabilized apartment in New York City’s Upper West Side. Hattie has been living in this apartment since age 10. She is a special education teacher and part-time interior designer and Instagram blogger.
When she and her parents moved into the 1,500-square-foot two-bedroom apartment in 2002, they paid a little less than $1,000 a month. Thanks to rent stabilization laws that limit the amount that the landlord can increase the rent and that entitle tenants to get to renew their lease each year, Hattie took over the lease after her parents retired in 2018. Today, her rent is $1,300 a month.

i bet she pays some to edit her videos, and why why as youtuber to pay so much and get so little when you can live and work anywhere
For natural light white paint helps and also mirrors opposite the windows can be magical source of light . Try glass tiles too. Avoid black appliances , fixtures and huge black TVs. Put more magnets on the black microwave. Cover the huge TV with a fancy fabric when not in use to increase light.
i would like to see the artwork which is blurred. very nicely kept place
I never understood why people move to places they cannot afford and live poor…..for what ? To see some skyscrapers or to feel cool ? Waste of time money!
IDC how spacious…I need a washer/dryer to keep me happy.
Every single one of them could afford a mortgage on a 3 bed 2 bath place in almost any other state with what they’re renting 1 bedroom for.
giving up daylight is so real in new york city
Why is all the art blurred out? They didn’t give consent? 😂
$1,300 for rent in NYC is cheaper then my dad's mortgage. if it were me, I would never leave
I visit NYC few weeks ago and I am so glad I left. I still can’t afford it even at my current salary, no way when I was younger almost 16 years ago. I have the quality of life I love and I was able to buy a place 5 years ago before the crazy home prices driven up by all recent transplants to FL. My best to all the young and hopeful 😊
Cash Jordan’s YouTube features current apartments for rent. It’s crazy to see what people are willing to pay, often for really crappy places even with no elevator yet several stories up.
man… and i thought CALI was expensive for a small place… hopefully everyone in NY holding their own, no bad struggles. God blessings man 🙏❤️
I am glad Hattie is planning to keep the apartment indefinitely … she's having a fantastic deal on it!
Nice room for you.
When it comes to the world of investing, most people don't know where to start. Fortunately, great investors of the past and present can provide us with guidance.
Love the people, but wonder if they include "part time instgrammer" on their resume since they list it as a "job" oof.
Nice video, but why is the artwork on the walls blurred out?
Live in NJ!!! It’s cheaper and efficient over here!!!! And save more than NYC!!!
This is an old episode
The rich stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then the poor stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich
Always wonder where people work and how much they make to make to pay 4g for rent.
Nice !
Hattie's case proves life is unfair in America lol. These days one can't even find a room for $1300 in Manhattan, needless an apt.
I really feel left aside hearing and seeing several testimonies from people on profits they make from Bitcoin/Forex Investment. Can someone recommend a good expert that trade on my behalf and generate profit for me.
That last apartment. If your only going to get 1/3 rent compared to market, might as well kick out the tenant and live there themselves

They can split a nice home with more baths for that amount of rent.
Weird question, but why is all the art work blurred out? One of my favorite things about apartment tours is checking out the art.
Born and raised in NYC Brooklyn… Joined the military after 9/11 and I'll never live there again. I visit my family and that helps my wife and I get our city urge out within hours. For these prices you can live in a mansion in most states.
As a homeowner on sling Island it amazes me how much rent is. It’s totally beyond what I pay for my mortgage. Wow!! 🤯
