We’re on a mission to cook bagels and make jerky on the farm one day, but first, we need to build an outdoor wood stove that can do all of that. This week we’re tackling a new project in 5 days. We’re building what we hope will become a BBQ, a Bread Oven, and a hot and cold smoker combo, and we’re doing it only with the leftover material we have on hand. Is it a stupid idea?
43 weeks ago, we bought an abandoned farm in Tras-os-montes, North Portugal, and we’re building our dream house with a public garden, an ice cream kiosk, and our dream house optimized toward minimalist yet comfortable living. But we’re not just building a house – we’re bringing back to life an entire Portuguese Homestead and working on self-sufficiency. We left the Rat trace for a simple life in North Portugal. And this is a slice of our dream and a new simple life.

Absolutely love the whole family” helping” you both with your outdoor oven!
So looking forward to the kitchen! Will it be completed by Christmas? Have the best week, Laura xx
Here in South Africa we call it a braai . Like your name . Braai’s come built or using a stand where you make the fire inside a drum on top of the legs , with a grid on top , then , braai’s similar to a pizza oven but square with a big opening , then you put your grid on bricks over where you have made the fire . Can’t wait to see what you do .
Hi Sindy and Dan., What a great video, I did enjoy it. I love outdoor cooking. I think your BBQ/ Bread Oven/ Oven will be a winner. I love how you have used all that stone, so nice. I can see you have had a good amount of rain. It does make it difficult to work outside Now those animals are as cute as can be. Elroy has grown. It was very heartwarming to see him with his mother. I cannot wait to see work on the kitchen. School finishes next week for the year. They are off till February next year (children in Australia and New Zealand) I need to get ready for Christmas (BBQ very casual, outdoors weather permitting) Also I have a heap of sewing to do including a quilt. Going to get my haircut now, see you on Sunday, take care.
Great job! Very creative and multi functional. Excellent!
Looking forward to seeing it in action.
The kitchen build is going to be exciting. Can’t wait to see that.
Well done guys! Great job. ❤
HELLO SINDY & DAN…IT'S JUST LOVELY TO SEE THE CHICKENS, PUPS & CATS ALL PLAYING AROUND YOU AS YOU WORK…SO SWEET…IT'S 26 F. THIS EVENING & CRUSTY SNOW IS ON THE GROUND & ROADWAYS, BUT, THANKFULLY, NONE HAS FALLEN SINCE, IN THE VANCOUVER AREA…YOUR BREAD OVEN/BBQ LOOKS GREAT, IT WAS NOT A STUPID IDEA…ALL THE BEST…🙏🏻;)
I agree Sindy Montez does make the best bagels as a Canadian myself….
Love how you guys think up projects and go at it.using what you have on hand.beautifull…
I just love the way your farmstead is evolving, week by week. You don't hang about do you, hehe 😊👌🏡. I'm wondering if it might look really good using more of the flat paving stone, to extend a patio area in front of the new outdoor oven you have built, to create a clean organic looking area to dine out. Perhaps you have already considered lots of ideas for pathways etc 😊🌟. The stone is just gorgeous for so many projects. Good luck with your indoor kitchen, I'm sure you are well on your way with it by now.
Take care Sindy and Dan xxx 🏡💕😊
Really enjoy watching the two of you working together. What kind of stone are you using in this build?
Lol all the pets around you
The way the dogs and cat put their nose in where you’re digging I am amazed they don’t get their noses chopped off. It’s fun to watch
It looks amazing. Great job and wonderful video 👏👏👏👏😎😎
Love the bbq and thatyou had a lot of the animals trying to help!
Hi,good idea the bbq,Have you tried Regueifa? It`s a type of bread that resembles a giant bagel.
Excellent ideas you have! Love what you are doing with your place and enjoy your videos with all your fur babies! Very welcoming home. Can't wait to see your kitchen! Have a rest and relax, you deserve a break. See you in the next episode!
Love it. All the furry surveyors of your work. Very close inspection 😂❤
Love the barbecue excited to see the kitchen videos 😊
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love you guys, I hope you show how it works.
I do not know.
That is going to be well used..i love it 👍
Mason’s coat is so shiny! Your fur family is adorable!
Hi Dan and Sindy, another productive week. What a great project. ELroy is growing so fast. Mason has to have the shiniest coat, love the sand on his nose. And the kittens are growing fast too. The people that gave you the idea to build the BBQ are from Tennessee and that"s where I live too. The build is looking smart. Your going to have a hard time keeping the dogs away from the oven when the pork starts cooking. See you next week.
What are all the animals name ?
Great job you two. Lovely grill / oven / smoker.
Lots of ingenuity. Congratulations.
Cher Cindy vous avez beaucoup d'idées même les minous participent je voudrais vous demander pourquoi Dan a mis des bâtons de bois dans l'huile d'olive amitiés bon weekend.Maria
Hehe, I love how all the animals participated in the build, even the chickens
