A Fairytale Grotto Lies Beneath This Abandoned House

#abandonedhouse #urbex #abandonedplaces

When a man with the desire to create a special place to share with his loved ones and community returned to his hometown with his fortune, an extravagant dream became reality.

These grounds are full of hidden secrets…
In the basement of his once grand mansion house, a spiral staircase descends deep underground into a warren of long tunnels, all eventually leading you to a mystical grotto.

Back above ground, a colourful market square with a chapel in the heart of it now sits silently, barren and forgotten.

On the perimeter wall, vines gradually consume the castle lookout…

The local people greatly admired this man for his contributions to the town and he even became count before passing away in 1926.

His creative masterpiece remains all these years later, hidden in plain site, a wasted paradise.

  1. I have never commented on a YouTube video before and it’s basically all I watch. This week, I have become addicted to watching you two! I think your humble, respectful and adorable together! I love that you document and show these hidden gems for “me” 😹😹😹 because as being an American who never had the opportunity to travel to Europe. 🙍🏼‍♀️I have a good general knowledge of antiques and I’m always talking to you two telling you what stuff is.😹😹🤦‍♀️ I loved this episode so I decided to bite the bullet and hey, good job. Keep up the good work but damn it put some gloves on!!😹😹😹♥️🖼

  2. Loved this as much as you did! The absolute best of all YouTube explorers! And Jess was wild, trying to figure which way to go! So into it! Sam unfortunately took one for the team trying to keep up with Jess! Best ever!

  3. Wicked amazing just stunning the sheer scale of the place. How much money did they have. Who were they. They must have been someone very very important. But jeez ya shoulda taken some of the other tunnels guys a chance like that I woulda and why the hell hasnt it been saved. What a waste an important place like that. Hey thanks would love to know more

  4. What an awesome place to explore, someone must have had loads of imagination to be able to make all those tunnels and grotto and all the other fairytale like things that were there, not forgetting the dragon! The whole place must have been very beautiful in its day and I imagine lots of parties. I love the Portuguese tiles, windows and the shutters on the windows. Basically I love Portuguese properties lol so much beautiful character.

  5. Damm this area is huge. I mean, even if someone was to buy this whole place and make it a rest and stay place for tourists or guests, there is so much to do and repair and mend. Take them years to do. Brill video and excellent commentary. "At first, the frogs and lizzie's were happy and free in the water pond of their dreams, then all of a sudden, there was a splish and a splash noise and the little creatures were startled. It's ok though, it's Sam and Jess, getting there feet wet for a while to explore the mysteries underneith, even if it means disturbing the small lizzy bizzie's in the water" haar haar..

  6. When the door appears open it and walk in to the Magical Kingdom 👍 ok not the same but get the gist.
Sorry I was 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 with you two and the frog, so funny to see two giants scared of little 🐸 and 🦎 but what a remarkable place this is.
    Well done on find 👏👏👏

  7. That place is amazing. It's so sad that it's been left to decay and eventually fall down. I would love to have seen it in its glory days. Thank for sharing it with us you are doing a great job.

  8. Ohh wow!! By far the most amazing place so far, would love to go back in time to see it. So imaginative and beautiful 😍 Thankyou for taking us here it was wonderful ❤️

  9. That was truly amazing. The grotto must have been created by artists–absolutely beautiful. I'm surprised someone hasn't bought that and turned it into a tourist attraction. Thank you for sharing!!
