I grew up near Sequoia National Park and actually worked on the trails as part of the Park Service trail crew back when I first got home from the Army in 1969. It was nice seeing it again 🤗

Happy to have Just discovered your site! 🙂 I have been an intrepid solo traveler since my later teens after experiencing an amazing trip in Kenya back in 1972 with my parents and sisters camping in the bush listening to the lions at night, watching in intrepedation as the Masai tribesmen crossed a croc infested river with their spears at dawn! Both my parents had a love of travel my Dad eventually selling the farm and spending the next 23 yrs sailing around the world. l like you have explored many countries also, too many here to name! A few years back now was in Tajikistan & Kyrgyzstan, hitched hundreds of miles. When Ishkashim two locals took me down to take photos by the river overlooking Afghanistan as we departed in their car were horrified to see about 9 military men guns pointed coming towards us, for a short time we tried to flee but then decided it was safer too return and were taken to their military quarters for interrogation! Really a scary experience fortunately all got resolved! (They thought I was a smuggler!) Many exciting but also very challenging experiences there! Back in 2002 I took my 14 year old son to Southern Africa, hired a small Cheko Volkswagen car (£9 a day unlimited mileage!) covered 14,000 ks in 2 months like yourselves made it up to the Kunene river and then east to Bushmanland was told I would never make it had only seen 4 wheel drives & even they were few & far between but we were blessed not even a puncture and made it through grass taller than our windscreen in places! Could not believe it when the small settlement we arrived at was greeted by my favourite character who played the Bushman in the God's must be crazy! We sat under the stars around a campfire together & later that night the men built a big fire and danced into the early hours of the morning with the women & children watching and singing. Spent 6 months also in the Middle-East hitching throughout, loved the people and my experiences there, the only drawback was in Syria being followed by the secret police when hitching into the wilder locations, made it as far as the Iraqi border! I guess they were protecting me! So many exciting travels difficult too compare each country unique..One that I still hold very close to my heart and especially unique in it's history and antiquity was Yemen (2007) Like going back to Biblical times in the Hadramaut not a tourist in sight! Had an amazing guide & driver, who has remained a constant & dear friend since. Sadly the war came & could not return. If it becomes possible again to go I would highly recommend. Georgia, South Caucasus, has beautiful unspoilt countryside looks like a Monet painting! Sveneti surrounded by 3,000 to 5,000 mountain peaks, Ushba magical twin peaks known as Granpa & Grandma! And Shkhara 5,201ft (highest mt in Europe) is spectacular and can be viewed from the ancient village of Ushguli. There is very adequate accommodation in Mestia and from here some wonderful walks. Am really enjoying watching your travels, evokes such memories of similar ones I have had, feel quite misty eyed at times! Your project in Portugal looks very exciting! And Crusoe, such a dear little boy, we traveled with my eldest and youngest at 4 months old around Scotland, Malaysia, Bali and Australia they loved it! Good luck with the arrival of your new baby, and look forward to your future tales when you return to Portugal!

You asked for suggestions for future travel….although there is no National Park that I know about I loved Malta when I visited with my friend Viki who was born there. I spoke with her 4 days ago and said how memorable it was and that we should go back but unfortunately I will have to go back without her. Or travel vicariously with you if you do go. If you are thinking of coming to the Americas, Canada has lots of spectacular National parks. I live close to Calgary so of course Banff, Jasper, Waterton are always high on the list with Waterton connection to the Glacier International Park. If you come out our way, please let me know. 🙂

Come to Canada! Relatively new to the channel so I'm not sure if you have come to Canada or not. But Western Canada has some fantastic hiking trails and Lakes. My home town is filled with them. We have wineries, fruit, lakes, and hiking trails. Not far from me (a few hour's drive) is Canada's only Desert! We have lots to offer! plus with all the growing in my area, you may pick up some ideas for your farm!!! come visit!! we'd love to have you!

I have just begun following your story while you were in Portugal so it was fun to see one of your travel vlogs this week. Thank you for taking us to the giant sequoias! I live on the northeast coast of the U.S. and have never journeyed to Sequoia NP so this was awe inspiring. Besides the beauty and grandeur of the trees, I was happy to see that the snow, cold and icy trails didn't stop you from exploring!

In May few years ago we thought the same thing. But snow was 10 feet deep! They had the road that goes east out of the park closed! To deep to plow!

We just returned from Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park. The bears were awesome!

We are just home from Rocky Mountain National Park. It was impressive. We've been to many of our parks including to these two you showed us today.
