Adventure In The City of Explorers | Lisbon's Forgotten Villas And Palaces | Portugal

In this episode of Infiltration: Portugal we are exploring two abandoned locations, as well as the history of Lisbon, the legendary city of explorers. The first location we visited was the Palace of the Counts of Ribeira Grande. It was built in the early 18th century by a descendant of Vasco da Gama. It is one of the largest Baroque palaces in the city, currently undergoing a restoration project.

The second one was found by mistake. Besides learning that the name of the villa is Casa Das Camelias and that it’s from 1810. there were no other documents to learn anything about this beautiful house. The villa is occupying a huge lot with multiple stories in variable phases of abandonment. Perhaps the weirdest part is a narrow underground tunnel in it’s basement.

  1. Casa das Camelias is actually for sale in the couple of millions range if im not mistaken. You can find it online but not under the same name. The tunnel is probably just a water mine, not unusual in the area since Sintra has a lot of springs etc.

  2. Sintra is known for Free-mason tunnels and symbols (Quinta da Regaleira was where the Masons were initiated and it's full of secret tunnels). Maybe the tunnel has something to do with the Masons, or it's a simple water source.
