  2. Some of the songs you picked are a bit harder for europeans to "get". Like Belgium.. I also think that some (but only some) of the type of songs we have "heard before" are not quite "Eurovision worthy" or not interesting enough. But some songs you just have an affinity for I guess. History wise, contry songs wont do well in the competition, but the Estonian song "I hope" was kind of perfect for this year.

  3. You guys seriously don't know laura pausini or mika? Those two are well known outside of Europe, they sold millions of albums all around the world, been nominated for all kinds of American awards. It's true that usually eurovision hosts are only well known in their own country but that was not the case this year.

  4. Well… to answer your question about the hosts… Alessandro Catalan is probably only known in Italy (as a TV presenter – X Factor).
But Laura Pausini is a very established singer… I think she has around 14 studio albums out, she sings in Italian & Spanish (and has one album in English), won San Remo Festival, Grammy (Best latin pop album 2006) and several Latin Grammy awards… and Golden Globe for best original song in 2021!
Mika has an international singing career (he's Lebanese-British and fluently speaks english, french, spanish and italian, as well as a little bit of lebanese arabic) with 5 studio albums and several awards… He also works as TV presenter or jury member in shows like X Factor (Italy) & The Voice (France).

Voting is half Televoting & National Jury votes.

Malta was one of the most meh songs in competition LOL. Sad for Emma who a very good vocalist.
Israel was a good performer but the song was not good.
Achille Lauro for San Marino started his carrer in underground post Punk and urban circles. He's not for everyone but he did put on the show. 🙂

  5. To be honest I thought the entries this year were way weaker than last year's. Last year was stacked with great competitors, and I had a hard time deciding who should win because I had at least 3 that I definitely wanted to win and 2 or so more that I wouldn't mind if they won. This year, I could barely figure out who I even want in my top ten, but not because there were so many candidates, but because I just barely liked anyone this year. In the end I settled for the UK as my candidate to win, but any other year, I would've been fine with him just finishing top 5 or top 10. Though granted, it is VERY hard to follow up last year's greatness. Hopefulyl next year's entries will be more my style, and hopefully we'll get to hear your thoughts on the candidates next year too! 😉

  6. I don't get why both this year and last year you only made a video covering the semi finals, because most people don't care about the semi finals lol. I don't even watch them and I'm an ESC fan! 😄
Most families and friends get together here to just watch the finals. Usually it's the biggest show as well with the more interesting opening, flag parade and such

While you're at it; look up the ESC 2019 opening! It was the best out of all of them so far imo. Very high production quality

  7. You said that it is good that every country sings in its own language, but in that case you have to be ready for what is behind that song. In that sense, Serbia had the most interesting and smartest song. Serbian song is at the very top on the most famous site in the world for downloading translations. It means that it has aroused interest. And it must be listened to several times and the meaning of the text must be considered, which is good. it makes you think.

  8. did you watch american song contest too? for esc presenters, most of the time, they are from the country where it takes place. but this time they also had the singer Mika (british). the woman, Laura Pausini is an italian singer who is kind of known in europe. the third seems to be only known in italy. about the languages, the host often speak or know some french too.

  9. Wait. you DON'T know Mika?
    Nope. Pretty sure you do.
His song Grace Kelly was pretty popular last year and other songs of his like Popular and Relax (Take it easy) reached the US back in the 2000's no?

  10. •Voting system: points go 1 to 8 and then 10 & 12, idk why.. that’s just how it works. There’s a Jury Show where every country has a jury there and they give points, that is 50% of the points.. then all at home vote by thelephone, text or app, and that’s like going in a percentage and countries will give points and then that’s 50% too…
    • the hosts are always from the host country (or hired in(?)) Mika, one of this years hosts has an American passport and had some big hits in (western?) Europe
    • for Tiny countries… they might host it themself if they can afford. They would probably work the postcards out. For counties who can’t afford hosting Eurovision (or can’t do it for any other reason) the EBU will ask for other countries to hosts, which.. most of the big 5 havent host since like loooong and they have the money… so they can say “we want to help host”. (This will also happen next year, the multiple counties offered to help if Ukrain isn’t able to host in May 2023)

  11. Wait you guys don't know Mika? I thought he was famous also in the states. His most famous song is Grace Kelly and he also did a song with Ariana Grande. He is not itallian but I think he lives in Italy, maybe… anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't because he is basically a polyglot ahaha.
Laura Pausini is famous mainly in Italy and Spain but she won an Oscar recently for her song in a movie.
Cattelan is famous only in Italy, he primarly hosts programs like Xfactor or Italy's got talent, but he also has his night show that is kinda like Jimmy Kimmel

  12. ESC is not about loyalty but what sounds good to you. Besides, Germany has been either last or second to last for the last years. We only rated in the top ten when we have fun pop songs totally contrary to our 'image'.

  13. The Scoring is interesting but fairly simple.
Each participating country has a Jury-vote giving 1-8, 10 and 12 points. To speed up the process they usually show all points directly except the 12p and only deliver those 12p live as they move between each country. Used to be each country took a long time to ramp up excitement between each point they gave out so with more participating countries they had to speed up the process..
Then we have the Televote where you call in to vote (or use the app), they pool all the votes (you cannot vote for your own country) and give each country points based on fractions.
So lets say all juries give out a total of 500p (completely made up number). This means that the Televoters will give out another 500p in total.
Say Finland got 4% of all total televotes/appvotes that would mean they got 500*0.04=20 votes.
Add together the Jury votes and the Televotes and you got the total score.

Should two contries tie it will be decided by who got the most 12-pointers from the Jury. If two countries got the same number of 12-pointers they pick who got most 10-pointers, etc. If it is perfectly equal the countries will both be crowned winners.

  14. Personal opinion: Eurovision should be a bit wacky and cheesy. I’m not a fan at all of the boring ballads. Give me a wolf with a banana, a spaceman, a yellow man singing about Jezabel, a woman washing her hands and a folk-rap fusion any day!

  15. I'm surprised you don't know who MIKA is, he had a remake song called "Popular Song" (from the musical Wicked I believe) with Ariana Grande, I thought that made some waves in US. He also has a viral hit song that recently popped off on tiktok because of a challenge, it's called "Grace Kelly".

  16. Laura Pausini is super famous in Spain and the tall guy is Mika, he made a collab with Ariana Grande way back in 2009, the song is called "Popular Song", that's from where I know him from anyways, the other one I had no idea pre-show and pre-google.

  17. Host Mika is very popular british singer. 15 years ago he has big album that was like Platinum in UK and across Europe. Not only Europe, but in Canada his album goes Platinum too. His biggest single was Relax, Take it Easy.

  18. The best host was Mika, he is speaking italian, french, spanish and he is singing mostly in english his main-language and he is known all over the world with very famous songs🥰🥰

  19. Of course, there is some kind of politics in this competition. Greece always gives 12 points to Cyprus and vice versa. Likewise, the Baltic States give each other many points etc. But to win this competition, you have to get many points from almost all countries.

  20. I love how you were talking about culture and songs in their own language and you like that, only to score all of those cultural songs in their own language really low lmao. You don't like them, you like the idea of liking them.

  21. being quirky or cool. Different, mekse SOME people put you in top 10, because that is how you get points. If everyone think you are decent, and get into their top 15, you get 0 points. ZERO. That is how the point system works, get into the top 10 and get points.

  22. Hi,
When I was a child, the ESC was a boring "Schlager"-Competition. Then there was a slight change, when the queer community hyped the event. And then, when I grew up, there where two things that totally changed my experience.
    1. Stefan Raab mixed up the dusty old competition by sending in totally nuts songs and making fun of the ESC, before sending a normal song with Lena, who won. Before that change, I couldn't have thought of a band like Lordi entering – let alone winning – the ESC.
    2. Alcohol and cheese.
There is a comedy clip, about a group of friends, drinking the national shot and eating the national cheese to every song. And we we accepted the challenge. 🙂
Well, we changed to "cheese and a really small sip of alcohol for every song" very quickly, otherwise, the evening would have ended in hospital. 😉
So nowadays, I enjoy the ESC, having a nice evening with family and friends.

  23. In my opinion it would be better if you'd comment the final not the semi-final where qualitu is still enough low and half of the country will be eliminated You also do not see the big five that will enter just in the final. For example last year you didnpt see the Maneskin exibition who won the competition at the end. You also lose all the tension of the Countries and public vote.
