  1. Olá (hello) from Portugal!
You should definitely visit Portugal I think you'll fall in love.
If you don't like big cities, there's lots of rural tourism. Or you can stay in a smaller city.
I myself am from Caldas da Rainha a small city in the litoral center of Portugal am 1h away from Lisbon and 2h30 from Porto (the 2 biggest cities)
Around me there's Óbidos a castle town. And some of the best beaches in Portugal (if you don't mind cold water) (Foz do Arelho, São Martinho do Porto, Peniche, Nazaré) the beaches from Peniche to Nazaré are called the silver coast of Portugal. They are beautiful and not super crowded like in the Algarve.
It's fairly cheap for an US citizen to buy some land and build a house

Like the video said we speak great English, you can be in the smallest village and find someone in a café that knows perfect English.
We are usually super friendly and welcoming towards tourists and immigrants. We are used to having a lot of turism in the summer.

Portugal has it's cons but it's mostly for it's citizens not for immigrants. Our minimum wage is very little (and believe me we can make it stretch).
If you can maintain your source of income from outside of Portugal you are all good.

  2. Olá….Oi from Porto, Portugal…..Finally my country!! Thank you Ty…..hope you come visit us soon. Lovely and beautiful, lots of sea food, portuguese cousine and deserts are to die for. We have nice weather, considerable cheap, great wine, and very friendly! Great video!!!
Curiosity on the famous Pasteis de belém ( Belém sweet pasty)
"At the beginning of the Nineteenth Century, in Belém, next to Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (the Heironymite Monastery) there was a sugar cane refinery attached to a small general store. As a result of the 1820 liberal revolution, all convents and monasteries in Portugal were shut down in 1834, the clergy and labourers expelled.
In an attempt at survival, someone from the monastery offered sweet pastries for sale in the shop; pastries that rapidly became known as ‘Pastéis de Belém’.
At that period the area of Belém was considered far from the city of Lisbon and mainly accessed by steam-boats. At the same time, the grandeur of the monastery and the Torre de Belém (the Belém Tower) attracted visitors who soon grew used to savouring the delicious pastries originated in the monastery.
In 1837, the baking of the “Pastéis de Belém”began in the buildings attached to the refinery, following the ancient ‘secret recipe` from the monastery. Passed on and known exclusively to the master confectioners who hand-crafted the pastries in the ‘secret room’, this recipe remained unchanged to the present day."
p.s. . the countryside his even cheaper and beautiful…..and do more videos plz….

  3. Beautiful country, food and people I´ve visited a few times. As you see, Europe is not just the UK and France or Italy. Portugal and its neighbour Spain enjoy good weather all year round in Algarve (Portugal) and Andalucia (Spain) regions, south iberian peninsula.

  4. Coffee? Most Portuguese can't live without it and there are about 18 different ways to drink it.

    Nice reaction!

  5. Hello, thanks for reacting to this, as a portuguese man Ican fill u in on some other positives and negatives.
Some of our negatives are mostly for those who wanna live here, sure the living cost is low but for portuguese people it's hard to find a good paying job, the minimum wage is 705 euros, other countries with same prices as us earn almoust double than we do for minimum wage, even high paying jobs are low.
We also have poor infrastructures mostly the old buildings, too many old houses that dot the landscape specially in suburbs and countryside, so alot of work is being put into construction work all over the country as of right now.
Another problem we had but no so much right now was political corruption, right now we still have a few bad apples running the show but its not as bad as it was during our former prime minister's reign José Sócrates.
For tourists who go to Algarve we do have a few pickpocketing problems amongst some gypsies, gypsies unfortunently are a bit of a problem living off social security, living in metal sheet houses, stealing copper and other goods, they're not common luckily but they do take advantage of people sometimes asking for alms.
Some other positives in this video is that Portugal is very open to all people of colour, religion and sexual orientation, we were one of the first countries in the world to legalize both weed and gay marriages.
Obviously here we have no medical bills like in the usa, we dont pay for health care.
This video focused alot in weather beaches yadadada but there's soo much more, the fact we are very open minded and warm welcoming and our cuisine is fantastic.
Much love from Aveiro Portugal 🙂

  6. I love Portugal and go there as often as I can. Being from the UK it's little more than a 2 hour flight. Friendly people. Great food. Fantastic beaches and countryside. Rich history and culture. All in all a wonderful place.
