Apartment Fire Kills 10 in China & Prompts COVID Lockdown Protests | EWTN News Nightly

Over the weekend in China there were unprecedented public demonstrations against coronavirus lockdowns. The unrest followed an apartment fire last week which killed 10 people. There are questions whether measures such as locked doors either hindered firefighters or trapped victims. In response, Beijing says it will now ease some of its COVID lockdown rules. Senior Research Fellow at the Heritage Center for National Defense, Brent Sadler, joins to discuss how significant these current protests are. Sadler fills us in on China’s Zero COVID Policy and its rules. Crowds in China’s largest cities blocked roads, chanted slogans and clashed with police. Sadler shares what is at stake for protestors and what type of consequences they could face. The senior research fellow explains how he believes China’s President Xi will handle all of this.
