Flooding has been reported throughout the Algarve since noon, with about 30 cases reported in Faro alone, associated with heavy rain.
According to civil protection authorities, about 80 cases have been registered in the region.
Several roads in Quarteira were completely flooded due to heavy rain. Footage posted to social media shows cars attempting to drive through the city’s flooded streets, forcing some drivers to try to push their cars away from the hardest-hit areas.
Roads were also flooded in Sant Bras de Alportel, and one of our readers reported that water even got into the garage of his house.
The situation in Faro has gotten so bad this morning that firefighters from Portimão, Lagos and Loulé have been called in to help deal with the growing calls for help.
The night and early hours were “relatively calm,” a source from the Faro Rescue Operations Center told Lusa, but the situation worsened in the morning, especially, when heavy rain began to hit the city.
Faro and Beja are also under a yellow warning due to the possibility of frequent and scattered thunderstorms and strong winds from the south gusting up to 70 kilometers per hour
