ABOUT HALISI AND RIC: If you’re like us, you were living your life – helping your kids through college and other endeavors, taking a vacation here and there, and strivin’. Then one day you wake up and realize 50 is staring you in the face and your savings and retirement account look piddly.
We changed the way we handled our finances and within three years our net worth went from -$22k to $800k+ and we were in a position to retire. We are currently scouting locations to retire abroad.
If you believe you might need some help in those areas, book a call with us. We will help you come up with a plan, to get your finances straight so that you can retire or maybe just…work less!

We are not financial advisors, but financial educators. The content in our courses, on our website, and on our YouTube videos are for educational purposes only and merely cites our own personal opinions. In order to make the best financial decision that suits your needs, you must conduct your own research and seek the advice of a licensed financial advisor if necessary.

  1. Bom Dia. In Maryland, it is still morning. My name is Will Coley and am in the process of moving to Portugal. I visited the country at the end of May, leaving in the beginning of June. I traveled to Fundao and Covilha, about 3 hours NEE of Lisboa. Thoroughly enjoyed the time there, so much that I am considering moving to the interior versus the coast. I thank you for this particular topic because I just finished my 70th year. I tell all that my new heroes are Abraham and Sarah, both attributed to moving in their seventies: living life to find their promise. Thank you for sharing your journey with me.

  2. In Portugal you are not considered to be Black, that is only for the people that really have black skin as a moonless night. You are a whole brand new race that is called Mulato (men), Mulata(woman), and if you hear the N word, don't be offended because isn't offensive. The offensive word is "Preto" which means black.

  3. Make an effort to learn the language, that will help you a lot. Major cities in Portugal, Lisbon, Porto,,, Aveiro Coimbra, have free classes for foreigners to help them to integrate. Have fun and enjoy.

  4. You both are just so cute! I honestly love you both and I don’t even know you! Lol!! Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. It’s very inspiring! I know your audience may be geared towards black folks but this white person loves what you share and I’m subscribed!

  5. Missed the live session and caught this on replay–so insightful this discussion with pertinent questions-; as ALWAYS!—I learn so much every single session–so can't thank you enough, Halisi and Ric;–you guys are true gems out there in those international streets; so proud of the community you've built.

  6. Thanks again for this. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this. We are scouting J/F 2023 with our grandson and looking forward to meeting you and many others. We will be 2 weeks in Porto and 6 in Lisbon. This is our second stint abroad as we spent 2015-18 in Singapore. I consult in leadership development and digital health and looking for opportunities to continue this work in Africa and the EU. Portugal puts us closer to both. Be well and blessed.

  7. At the cafe: Small cup: 'expresso'=less than half the volume filled; "bica" half the volume filled; "garoto"= a bica with a small volume of milk added; 'carioca' =a light 'bica' full cup. If you want the cofee made old fashion or "american type" you ask for a 'bica de saco'. However it is somehow difficult to have a proper old fashion cofee in most places, so better not to ask.
Medium size cup: 'meia de leite' = regular cofee and milk (if you want the cofee from the expresso machine, you will add 'de máquina'. If you want the 'meia de leite' darker, you will add 'escura', if the opposite 'clara'. If you want just a drop of milk in the 'meia de leite', you will ask a 'pingado'.)
Large glass: 'galão' = regular size glass filled with cofee and milk. The same options as the 'meia de leite'.
If you like the above very hot, you ask at the end 'em chávena escaldada' (or 'em copo escaldado' if asking for a 'galão'). The opposite will be 'em chávena fria' (or 'em copo frio'). If you like to have a cold 'galão' you ask for a 'galão gelado'. You will be served with ice cubes (and you will be paying for the ice as if it was milk)…
Well I think it covers most of the situations….

  8. Hi everyone. Just a small bit of advice: mingle with locals. Do not stay away from the reality. Expats groups are just a help for the begining of you adventure, unless you do not want to get away from "home". Myself, traveling for work around the wrold, unless I can't find any connection with local people I stay "glued" to ' resident facilitating' groups. You sould be brave enough to look farther, or you will be kind of staying where you came from. Moving means a new life you will be living, not an extension of the previous one and lots of money spent, almost for nothing.
