The rare viral infection, monkeypox, has been discovered in Sydney and Melbourne. It does not spread easily between people and symptoms include fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes. Cases of monkeypox – which is endemic to Central or West Africa – have emerged in the UK, Spain, Portugal, the US, Italy, Sweden, France and Canada recently.
