Autumn Tree maintenance & Harvest on Our North Portuguese Homestead – Wednesday Vlog #1 ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒฒ

With Building fatigue setting in, we thought we’d mix things up with a Wednesday Bonus video. We are getting ready for autumn and winter, and maintaining our trees is a priority. But sadly, we had to take our favorite tree down as it broke in the storm.

Our Portuguese homestead is looking glorious even if Autumn has started. Today we’ll be harvesting figs and plums!

  1. To avoid any insects, spray all your exposed skin and clothes with vinagre. It really works and no chemicals. Boa sorte! โค ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿฆ—๐ŸฆŸ๐Ÿ•ท๐Ÿชฐ๐Ÿ•ธ๐Ÿ”ซ

  2. Good you saved the grapevine you found. I suggest raising the height of the wire a fair bit- that way, goats wonโ€™t be able to reach the grapes but you can still manage them and harvest next year.

  3. HELLO SINDY & DAN…YOU MIGHT TRY A CIRCULAR AREA OF CITRONELLA CANDLES OF YOUR WORK AREA…THE SMOKE SHOULD DRIVE THE SQUITOES AWAY…LOOKIN' GOOD…ALL THE BEST…๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป;)

  4. Well this is a welcome bonus, thank you for taking the time. Hello Sindy, Dan and the Boyz. Great to be doing a bit of outdoor work. I love gardening. You no doubt have lot of work to do on the land so devoting some of each week to shaping the land how you want it is very wise. Cutting and pruning trees at this time of the year is good, they have time to recover before next summer. Enjoy your week and see you Sunday.

  5. Hellloooo! Lovely to see more of your outdoors area! Try not to worry about the trees, we all need a blumming good haircut every now and then!!
It would be great to see you enjoying and exploring the stunning Portuguese countryside surrounding you?!
Do you have river beaches near you or are you fairly close to the sea?
Have a good week, Laura โค

  6. Love your journey. You 2 rock!! Well done so far.
I use camphercream here in south africa as well as citronella for mosquitoes.

You're smart. The weather is turning cool, best time to get things done outside. Love the vlog ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ‘. Keep them coming.

  8. Mosquito nets on your bed and on the doors.
Plant aromatic herbs close to the house preferably in the containers under the windows or also have in the kitchen.
    Essential oils like lemon eucalyptus.
Do not leave standing rain water outside.
You will find plenty of tips on the internet.
Lavender, carnations, tomatoes, geraniums, marigolds, nasturtiums or petunias, aromatic plants (basil, mint, rosemaryโ€ฆ), lemongrass

There are body sprays that you can buy at the pharmacy based on Deet or cide vinager whith water on you.
โ€ข For the inside: a lemon or an orange studded with about fifteen cloves.
    Good work like always โ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  9. Glad you decided to make a video for Wednesday's. Smart idea to fix the grape vine as a border for the drop off, will make it easier to reach the fruit too. That plum tree should have sprouts and continue growing. Great idea to take the cuttings and replant them in an area for an orchard. And as for the ice cream shop with so many types of fruit will be a good addition for different flavors. That is one of the greatest things you have shared with us for the future. I'm sure your list is very long of things that need to be done that ticking them off the list will be fun to do. There are plants you can get to help control the mosquito's too. Lemon grass and eucalyptus, lemon trees. You may want to try them. Thanks for sharing.

  10. It's so lovely to see you guys preparing the land. Coppice work is so important, particularly in the autumn. We do the chop and drop here to make habitat piles for wintering animals. Can't wait to see the new orchard, it is one of the first things we planted here and it is now well established. Have a great week Sindy and Dan xxx

  11. Wow! what a nice surprise to see a Wednesday video. Peach and Plum trees are easy to grow and most will shoot out sprouts after you cut them . Where ever their seeds drop on the ground a tree will come up.. So you can also start the seed in a cup of good soil , or a cup of water. I do the soil. See y'all on Sunday.
