In this 4k Portugal Vlog, we travel from Braga to Barcelos. We’ve heard this weekly market is the largest one in Europe. Does it live up to its reputation? Plus, so many roosters…
Barcelos, Portugal is allegedly home to the largest market in Europe (Campo da Feira), taking place on Thursdays. We’ve been to a lot of markets in Europe; they’re a great way to get to know the area that we’re visiting. We travel by train from Braga in order to check out this one. It’s massive!
While there, we can’t help but notice all the rooster art that’s spread throughout Barcelos. Barcelos’ rooster is extremely well known, and we share an abbreviated version of the folk tale in this video.
We also have an incredible local lunch that we totally lucked into by walking to the other side of the river – to Barcelinhos.

Nice video, massive town market.
But was is something that happens once a year? Monthly? Weekly?
5:20 those are "alambiques", I don't know the name in English, are used to make our diferent types of fire water…
A lot of Portuguese weekly markets (Feiras) in smaller towns are a bit like that, with a big variety of things, though probably that is the only one where you would see someone selling sofas! Keep in mind that there are a lot of different kinds of markets in Portugal, some only happen once a year, a few can be traced back to the 12-13th century.
Want to live near that market!!
