Praia de Albarquel Beach Walking Tour Setubal Portugal

Praia de Albarquel is a beach in the municipality of Setúbal, 0.5 km away from the city, at the foot of Serra da Arrábida. It is 300 meters long and has two kiosks, a restaurant and a summer terrace. It has an extensive beach, delimited to the west by an unusually shaped rocky ledge on the cliff. On the east side, it is delimited by a pier and the Albarquel Fort. From this location, it is possible to enjoy from an advantageous position the view over the Troia Peninsula, on the other side of the Sado River.

It was cleaned at the beginning of the 21st century and its demand has been increasing in recent years, both from nationals and foreigners, particularly Europeans from the Community. More recently, a garden was built before the beach, in a space where the old campsite of Setúbal, known as “Toca do Pai Lopes” used to be. The beach is bathed by the Sado estuary and the water quality is considered excellent, as evidenced by frequent analyzes carried out by the competent authorities. Its water rivals the temperatures of the Algarve beaches, with temperatures between 20ºC and 23ºC being easily found. Beach with calm waters, it is recommended mainly for families with young children. The fact that it is a guarded beach adds greater security to those who visit it.
Praia de Albarquel was recently unanimously elected as the best “Beach + Accessible 2020” in the country, the result of a set of qualifying investments by the City Council to be enjoyed by all citizens.
