All of our beautiful wild flowers and grasses are gone! Actually its not as bad as it sounds…
This week our homestead, farm got its summer haircut. Our neighbour Joaquim is a sheep farmer and needs lots of grass to feed his flock in the dry summer months. We let him cut and harvest all of our grass, and turn it into hay bales for his sheep.
Its fascinating to watch Joaquim on his various Ford tractors, cutting the grasses, sweeping them into piles and using his his hay baler to turn them into giant haybales for the sheep ๐
If you are new here, welcome to OKportugal. We are Ken & Gina, and we left the UK in 2019 in search of a simpler life, away from our office jobs, and the hustle and bustle of the big city. We sold our house, left the UK, and left the Rat race behind us, to move to Portugal and buy a semi off grid farm. We bought an amazing property in Castelo Branco, Central Portugal where we have lived for the last two and a half years.
We make these videos for our friends and family to keep up with whatโs going on in our new lives and as a record to look back on one day so see how far we have come. We are always amazed when we see how many new people have been watching, following, and subscribing to our vlogs. Thanks for tuning in and coming along for the ride ๐

Diga olรก para Joaquin … ๐
I appreciate you and your content < Technical Analysis is good but I find It truly baffling that major crypto youtubers just look mostly at pure T.A and completely ignore the bigger narrative of why BTC is pumps/pumped and why the future outlook will be even rosier than it seems. It's kinda irresponsible to ignore the fact that each ETF launch so far has caused a major dump at the peaks of BTC. We were already on shaky footing with historically low volume and almost pure whale pumps, narrowly avoiding a long-term bear market. More emphasis should be put into day trading as it is less affected by the unpredictable nature of the market. I have made over 12BTC from day tradng with Alan cranston insights and charts. His been one step ahead of other analysis.
It fascinates me how the grass is stored in big round bales whereas here in Australia they are rectangular in shape making them easy to stack. Some are even better used for making hay bale houses. Is there a reason they are round?

If I may…what would be your advice(s) when its time to buy a piece of land in Portugal?
it has not stopped raining here in lismore for 12 months.
hahaha sunhat hahahah
its a roll over bar, in case he flips the tractor, stops him from being killed
Great video. Don't get so annoyed by the Sรกhara storms . They bring nutrients to the earth. Just like rhey do to the Amazon forest.
(Moira Ashton) It's a really busy time of the year- it doesn't seem like a year ago you were doing the same, the wild flowers are so pretty- I just love watching the drone footage- and the "hay poop" machine, Good name Gina!! ๐ฅฐ๐ everything is looking good, oh and it was lovely to see the frogs in the weฤบl, the little tree in the wall must be lovely for them to hide when they want to… Looking forward to the sheep shearing next week.. love to you all….๐ฅฐ๐๐คฉ๐ ๐ถ ๐ ๐ถ ๐ ๐โโฌ ๐๐๐๐๐xxxxx
Washing your feet at 1 in the morning?!
You Folks have such a Beautiful Symbiosis going Kudos
I think what those airplanes and choppers are doing is preventative maintenance by keeping the forest damp
Re planes… maybe they are training pilots ๐
We loved watching the bail pooping machine do itโs job ๐๐ผ๐๐ผ
Ek geniet elke video!
"Long sleaved trousers" – LOL!
Very nice to see farm life like this, how farmers and non farmers work together, eat, live and form community, the synergy, the struggles but also what makes them happy. City people often have no clue about farm to table.
I'm from a farming community but I've never watched farming from a drone! Fascinating!
Such a great vlog Ken, I love watching the farming equipment from the drone. ๐โค๏ธ๐ฆ๐บ๐ฆ
Ken, have you heard back from the people who were testing the lake with the dead fish. Wildlanders were at the lake swimming with their dog and several of their subscribers mentioned what you saw and she was not complimentary about what you saw. I thought she was rather rude so I unsubscribed to their channel. If you have heard anything, I would put it on your vlog. Best to you, Jane, Philadelphia
does anyone know how the fish get into the well? thanks =)
You mentioned In a previous video that Joaquim makes and sells sheep cheese. Do they export or only sell within Portugal? What is the brand name? I imagine the taste is delightful with the sheep eating all the spring flowers.
I wonder how long a bale would last him and how many sheep that would feed
Nice! Very informative video about your farm and how you share the use of your land with a great neighbor. I think it is wise of you to build a good rapport with the Portuguese people. I just love how friendly they are overall.
It is a hay pooper ๐ whenever I see them I think about how much effort it took before tractors to make a single densely packed haybale.
Wow such an awesome episode! I never knew hay bales could burst into flame like that – wow! And that outdoor shower looks divine! I can't wait to use it. ๐
The cork oak is so adorable! Would you be allowed to transplant it somewhere really pretty or shading for the house?
You know itโs hot as shit outside when you wake up at 1am to shower to cool down.๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Your little piece of property is a hive of activity. Round balers as are a lot of farm machinery are driven by a PTO (power take off), the hoses are the hydraulic lines, tines or teeth pickup the hay. Here in Canada some farmers wrap the round bales in plastic covering. I think Joaquim wanted to get the bales home before the dust storm . That doesnt sound nice- think I'd rather have snow. Bless the hard working people of the land!
Iโm glad you have such a healthy attitude about armchair farmers critiquing what you do with your land. Scroll on by.
The hay is raked to help it dry
The farm looked so beautiful with the wild flowers โค๏ธ๐
But it looks beautiful as well after ๐ just a different way ๐ you guys have a very blessed life. โค๏ธ๐
Nice video. Thank you . What about the ๐๐๐ bees hives ? Did you manage to make some honey ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฏ?
The implement that turns and "windrows" the hay is called a "tedder" I believe. Wonder what it's called in Portugese?
Another lovely video Ken ๐ outdoor showers!! ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Hello Ken and Gina! ๐
Great video. I so appreciate how you both respect and learn from your neighbors.
