Beijinos e abraços,
Carissa, Iwan, Frankie & Albi

Carissa, Iwan & Frankie decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month they were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call their new home. We picked up Albi the cat along the way. Subscribe to follow our journey as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

  1. You might want to try putting cardboard down instead of digging the weeds out Carissa. So much easier. Just pile all your compost and soil on top and the weeds disappear within a couple of weeks and don't come back. You could even rake up some of your strimming grass and use that as compost. Also chip your prunnings green so lots of nitrogen goes into the garden.

  2. I like seeing your videos, they are very peaceful. And I think my cat agrees, because she is looking at the TV for at least 10 minutes now… Seeing the trees and the animals ☺️

  3. I wouldn’t encourage caterpillars in the garden, they can strip a plant of all its leaves in a matter of hours if there are dozens of them. I had a gooseberry bush stripped in a few hours. I had to cut it right back virtually to the ground. It took 12 months to grow back reasonably.

  4. Why not connect a piece of pipe and direct it better to patch ,also you can walk over it without having the ditch . How is Frankie feeling ? Fig trees are very resilient , you can always re-plant it elsewhere while it still small . Thanks for the video.

  5. Very enjoyable vid. Love how you continue to work at and get tasks done and make time you're enjoying the fruits of your labor… work/life balance at the office could NEVER be as good as life with Frankie Off The grid. Frankie & Albi are so cute together (and individually) that i nearly 🤯 when i see them together. And João is a sweet little guy, too. I want to type more, but my cow-colored kitty (white with black splotches) is sitting on my belly… i think she wants me to go to sleep now 😄.

  6. I wanted to give you my coleslaw dressing recipe. Mix equal parts yoghurt and mayonnaise, small can drained diced pineapple, a diced apple, and 1/4th teaspoon onion powder. I think it's 2 cups each on yogurt and mayo? Anyway, it fits in a regular canning jar when done. I keep it on fridge door. Hopefully that makes sense, my pills are kicking in…

  7. Yes, a very lovely vlog. It is a challenge to grow and garden in your soil but you are doing so well with it. Your little babies are adorable. The rain must be a welcome sight to water your garden. Those wild flowers are beautiful. Maybe you can keep a patch of it. Fires and heat waves are terrible here too in summer. I am impressed by the variety of veggies you have.

  8. Use a tiny bit of black food safe dye in the tank – it will significantly slow down the growth of algae, and is completely safe for wildlife & plants. You can also use a tiny bit of pool chlorine, as long as you wait 48 h to use the water for irrigation.
