Buying vs Renting a Car in Portugal Pt1 | Life Admin While Searching for my Farm

Part 1 of a 2 part series to find and buy a car in Portugal.
In this video I walk the streets of Cascais on my way to a test drive and talk about my experience of car hire, the prices that go along with that and of finding a car to buy and what budget you should probably consider if you’re looking in the second hard market.
I end off with 5 tips for buying vehicles that I’ve learned so far.

I’ve never owned or lived on a farm, but moved to Portugal in the hope of fulfilling a life-long dream of finding open space, subsistence farming and a safer, better life.

  1. Get a good second hand panel van with sliding doors on both sides. A VW Caddy is the best or a good Renault. Do not get a bakkie. They charge more on tolls for bakkies. Preferably a diesel.

  2. Morning….hope you found what you are looking for. I am tracking your followers and they have grown considerably since I first found your channel. Now to find that elusive homestead you are after. Veels geluk 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

  3. Renting a house in Cascais and look for land in Castelo Branco doesn't make sense to me. You should be near the place you want to live to see if you like the lifestyle, weather, people…

  4. What side do Portugal drive on? Do you need to change your driver's license when you move there?
Can you use your driver's license as id when getting a vehicle?
I learned on automatic cars. Never drive a stick shift before.

  5. "What you ended up buying" ?
Too late to suggest you to get a MPV I guess..
MPVs like Ford Galaxy / Seat Alhambra are really useful as the seats drop down diving you a 2x1x1m flat loading cargo.
Quite useful as if you buy a farm, you might need to carry stuff around.

Too late to suggest you that now.
