CALDAS DA RAINHA Slow Travel Housesitting series Vlog 3 of 3… and we hope you enjoy the videos as much as we enjoyed our 3 weeks there!
It was a wonderful housesit with 2 gorgeous dogs and 5 beautiful rats… yes, you read that right! This was the first time we’d ever looked after rats, and I was a bit nervous at first, but within a day they had totally won me over!
This video shows many short clips that didn’t quite fit in to the other videos. I’m so pleased with how it’s turned out, and I hope you enjoy it as well!
In this video we show:
Are rats really as scary as I thought?
Is this the best buffet in Portugal?
Can Lee eat 3 plates of dessert?
What are those strange drinks in the coffee section of the supermarkets?
How are those amazing calçada pavements made?
What do we buy to set up in a new housesit?
😁 Please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed this video, and SHARE with your friends!
This helps our channel grow, and also keeps us motivated to make more videos!
There will be many more frugal travel videos to come as we are travelling indefinitely…

What a life guys 🇵🇹 ❤️
Omg, everything looks good and I'm hungry now 😂😂😭. Thanks for sharing.
How lovely to have been part of the local celebration. Did you join in? Oh my gosh – all that food. Hollow legs Lee. I would be full to pussy's bow after the first plate! Looks tasty and lovely. How wonderful that you had some squeaky rats to look after. I had two white rats when I was young (a very long time ago) and used to wash them in Halo shampoo and keep them down the front of my blouse! Glad you could catch up with friends – yes it is always lovely to find someone who can share memories and conversations when you are away from home for a long time. We are now planning a five week trip to Portugal in April/May 2023 – slow travel. Will be picking your brains.
Been a while we haven’t been in touch, hope you guy are doing good ! By the way the foods look yum 🤤
Shocked When Visiting Portugal. Dear Mandy and Lee, have you ever considered doing an episode on what shocked you about Portugal past and present. I would love to hear from the commentators on here also. Provided hereunder is my list of 10 shocking things that I have noticed when visiting Portugal.
1. The abundance of salt fish in supermarkets
2. The beautiful mosaic tiles especially in train stations.
3. The amount of smokers in Portugal.
4. The number of cork trees in Portugal.
5. When renting a car not many automatic transmissions.
6. Algarve has more Brits than Hampshire, England.
7. Restaurants occupied primarily by men, hardly any women other than tourist.
8. Pastéis de Nata is overrated, it's just a custard tart.
9. Portuguese people are very friendly.
10. The coffee is excellent and downright delicious.
What fun! Got to love the names of those beautiful rodents! Adorable. Most rats I’ve seen were huge NYC subway and park rats. That food looked fantastic! I’d have a difficult time not going straight to those amazing looking desserts! And the dancing afterwards… I’d be clapping along! Obrigada Mandy & Lee! Cheers ~
ooh that buffet looks amazing! Great value as well. we haven't been to a buffet in years, but we used to love going and stuffing our faces. definitely a great way to spend 3 hours! 😋
Hi guys. 😊 The animals ❤️. That buffet I have to say looked really good.👍🏼
So Lee used to have a "pornstache"! Love it! ❤️
Wow! What a fun filled video! Fur babies, friends and food! What a deal at that buffet and LIDL. You guys find the best deals.
That was a really great post. Well done.
My better half squirmed at the idea of pet sitting rats, despite my telling her they are just cute rodents, like rabbits, that have got a bad rep over the ages.
The buffet would be my idea of heaven … or maybe hell, given the size of my smallish stomach.
The shopping costs were also very interesting and useful too.
Thanks again!
OMG older adults dancing. ❤😊🎉
Whew! I'm really full after that!!! 🤣🤣 Loved the rats as I had many pet mice when I was just a kid. Thanks for another installment Mandy & Lee! 😺😺
the frugal-est buffet that I'll have to try …. Thanks for the videos !!
Love you guys 😊
Restaurante Lisboa XL is next to where I service my Toyota. I saw and and was wondering how good it is. Thanks for another great tip!
Wonderful 3 hours well spent with dancers and all. I loved😄💕
Hi Team MandyLee, let's hope this new upload time will work for you as I only mentioned the upload time for midweek video.
House sitting gives you the opportunity to move around in Portugal but also to interact with different animals species (dogs, cat, chicken, rats!). That's so cool!
Regarding this Lisboa Buffet restaurant, I have mix feelings about it.
It's good value with great desserts but the place doesn't look like a restaurant, it's "cold" and loud.
Veggies seems soggy / overcooked.
I'm judging from a video and not from trying it myself, but it's not as appealing as the Asian buffet you guys had last time (also more expensive).
Great video again! I was hoping to see a bit of blood 😁
Olá, Mandy and Lee, thanks for sharing your Portugal experience, I have been enjoying watching all your videos. Between I was so thrilled to spot you walking with two dogs in Praia del ray this morning.
I love spending my Sundays half-working, half-potating. Potating definition: to laze around the home like a couch potato. I feel like that word embodies the way that I like to exist on a Sunday. So Sundays are designated potating days, but they’re also the start of a brand new week. Mixing in play with prep is the ideal way to kickstart the week ahead, because you get the best of both worlds. My Sunday will typically start with a morning walk, coffee then breakfast. The rest of the day is filled with errands, cleaning, reading and watching YouTube videos namely, Frugal Travellers. Yeah. This new launch time does not conflict with my drinking, smoking nor running around with loose women. Not to be taken literally of course. Keep up the great work.
Dear Mandy and Lee, thank you again for the lovely video. The new time frame works great for me. It behooves me to see that you purchased frozen fruit and bread in a package at Lidl when there's so many bakeries and markets where you can buy fresh fruit and grandma's bread at reasonable prices. I'm sure you have an answer for that, LOL. Please take care of each other and stay safe.
PS. What do you call two rats in love? Squeakhearts.
Hi Mandy and Lee!
The deserts are so delicious!
Thank you for sharing ❤️
My Saturday morning routine – brew a pot of coffee, make some toast, sit down to watch the latest Frugal Travellers vlog at 10am. Coffee – tick, toast – tick, vlog – oh no, where is it?? It's now scheduled for 2pm on Sunday – my whole weekend is thrown into turmoil – I don't know what time or day it is anymore – I don't know if I can cope with this change! 😂
Dear Mandy and Lee, Sunday will never be the same, now I have something to look forward to. Sleepless in Canada. Please take care of each other.
