It’s the end of May 2022 and time to share my numbers. This is a more realistic view of what it truly cost to live on a retirement income in the country of Ecuador.

Good Info. !!! Thanks I just subbed.
Hello Don, this is a helpful video. It's very interesting you included the line item about the Magis TV service. I had written myself a note to ask you to consider putting together an interview with someone from
"My Cuenca Nerd". I'm sure lots of folks considering a move to Ecuador, and likely some currently there and frustrated with TV options, might be very interested in learning more.
I'll plan on sending you an e-mail. By the way, I'm like # 304 and thank you for including Spanish subtitles on this video.
Great video, as always, Don! A couple of questions:
1) Who is your cable service provider?
2) What laundry service do you use or recommend?
Gracias and have a great day!
Please explain how you do your yearly taxes? That's really the only factor holding me back from looking at Europe or South America to move to when I retire.
Thank you for your sharing this information.
Don good to hear from you. Has inflation reared its ugly head down there? Pretty high here.
Don, Thanks again for another helpful video and your willingness to share your expenses for the month. We are planning to move to Cuenca in April 2023, so very helpful.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Don. I always look forward to your videos. Very honest and too the point—no sugar coating. Interesting to see your expenses and how I could live with some adjustments. It is very doable. Thanks again!
Hi Don, was your internet cost included in one of the budgeted items. Just wondering how much you're paying for internet service and what speed you're getting. Another informative video. Thank you.
Don, excellent video! I will be coming to Ecuador soon and I really appreciate an honest breakdown. My beer and wine will probably be more than yours. Luna likes her Scotch and Rebel like his ale. Scottie and Collie..
Excellent
Thanks for sharing a realistic budget. Some of these folks who say "You can live like a King" on 1500 USD per month is always somewhat ridiculous.
Thanks again Don..
You've just convinced me -;again, that I will do pretty well when I come down by sharing your budget 😊
Thanks for the great video. It is so much more useful to see a real month for a real person vs general projections. It is so hard to imagine living on so little. Those shots sound terrible!
Question Don – My husband receives 50% off his monthly mobile bill, the $23.00 you spend with Claro, is that discounted or straight up?
I would say what you spend sounds very reasonable, especially when compared to the US. I will check out Magis TV when I move down. Claro sounds like the way to go for phone service. These budget videos are super useful. I’m thinking about checking out the budget program you use. I definitely need help in that department. So many of your recommendations and suggestions have been spot on. Thank you for all the help you give to your loyal subscribers. Take care!
Excellent video, Don. Right to the point. Nice screen capture. Completely transparent. Thank you!!!
Appreciate the nuts and bolts breakdown. Thank you for sharing.
Considering that the average income in Ecuador is somewhere between 1,200 and 1,500 USD a month, and that many live on 500 USD a month, 2.2k a month is indeed very high.
Fortunately, if you needed to, you could easily cut those expenses from 2.2k to 1.7k with no significant loss in quality of life. If you're already putting enough money aside for long-term living, you'd actually be building wealth quite quickly.
There's no question, you absolutely can afford to live in Ecuador.
Hey Don,
You have really good info on you site. Some other channels paint a not so realistic picture of Ecuador, where as you show both the good and the not so good.
Your budget breakdown is very helpful. Plan to visit Manta probably in Feb or Mar 2023 and decide if it's the place for me.
Keep up the great realistic videos!
Great video thanks for sharing sir. I just did my budget as well this month I live in Minnesota USA, Mortgage 1600, Car 600, Gas Electric 300, Cell 130, Internet 140, Garbage 30, Sewer Water 100. Total around 2900 a month. These are the bills I must pay to keep things going and does not include food or fuel two other decent expenses. I also spend around 500 a month on pot something I could cut back for sure. I figured I spend around 5k a month with everything.
Thank you for this useful information concerning your personal budget and living expenses in Manta. Regards.
Good informative video.
Hi Don! Now that you have been in both places, Manta and Cuenca, which do you prefer weather wise? What about Vilcabamba?
Don! Great to see you! Thank you for being so willing to share your finances with us! Unbelievable how reasonable the cost of living is. Retirement is right around the corner for Tracie and I, can't wait to get to Ecuador! We owe you dinner and a more than a few beers; more than a few dinners! Thanks again!
Great info Don! Very valuable information. You are 100% right, costs will differ according to your life style. Will you travel around the country a bit? When we last lived there, we went to the movies and bowling. Gym costs or classes you may wish to take. Owning a car will increase budget.
Do you have internet included in your rent ?
Nice video. Rent is very high there. Where I live in Riobamba, you can rent a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath townhouse in a gated community for $250-400. Of course no ocean. That's what you are paying for there in Manta. I need the discipline to record my expenses. But I am fat and lazy too.
Hi Don! Watching this video and drinking my morning coffee here in Massachusetts for vacation. Just last night I was thinking how much I would spend if I moved to Ecuador. I'm interested in Cuenca and if not Portugal. But Ecuador (Cuenca) would be my first choice. Watching your videos has helped me get an idea of what to expect. Thanks alot Don.
