Closing-Exhibition Artist Residency Cerdeira Village, august 2015, Portugal
On midnight, 19th of august 2015, five young artists exhibited their graphic and performing conclusions of a two (some three)-week stay in the schist-stone village Cerdeira, lost in the mountains of Lousã, Portugal. The coincidence with a group of ceramic artists, who were building at this time the only smokeless woodfired kiln in Portugal with the Japanese Master Masakazu Kusakabe, was a fortunate encounter between artistic disciplines and filled this night the art-studio with curious voices and looks. Nina Simone sang in the backround, Tereza Silon’s Video-Performance lighted the ceiling and Roni Mercedes Smith’s small and delicately printed fabrics hang on the stairs, between two main floors where the visitors could promenade. On the first floor you could observe drawings from Hannah Haffmans on the wall and a wood-table, in a bloc, on a stone or clipped on a cord. A life-sized deer with textile shags in all colours threw a fine lined shadow on the wall and earned main attention (Sonia Volfcovich). On the upper floor Christopher Savage offered a look into the illustrated book dedicated to Cerdeira, with colourful, partly figurative, partly abstract patterns and forms. Close to it you could submerge in the detailed reflection of the surrounding landscape, in the paintings from Sonia Volfkovich. Then, approaching to a small window you could have a view over a small roof covered, as all other roofs in the village, with schist-stones, these ones in change were showing white drawings of hands in all kind of positions (Hannah Haffmans). The following video is a round-view on the art-studio and exhibition this night, recorded by Martim Santa Rita, one of the Ceramic Artists and later edited by Hannah Haffmans. For further information about the work of each artist you can investigate the following links to their websites:
