Chainsaws, Axes and Cakes on a mountain in Portugal 🇵🇹

We have needed to be able to process our own lumber and found the perfect pairing for trimming trunks and then splitting logs!
The Stihl MS211 chainsaw and the Fiskar’s X27 log splitter, both are a revelation!
Its still raining in Portugal, i blame the english immigrants myself, there has to be a connection…
Sarah made a carrot cake and then flew back to the uk for work and we are just getting used to always being soaked and thawing out by the wood burner.
Dont forget to follow us on the other socials for more content and surprises and thank you for watching.

  1. Glad to see you back. You need one more thing for safety when using the chain saw — chain saw chaps. Yes, they are cumbersome and a pain to use but they have saved any number of people from massive life ending injuries. I recommend you review videos from Simeon and Alex going back and back 3-4-5-6 years for chain saw and wood videos. Also get yourself some old car tires without the rims. Put the logs you want to split in the center and pack them in. The tires (2 on top of each other) keep the split wood from flying. Getting hit in the shin by a piece of flying wood is no fun. You will also have to learn how to sharpen the chain on the chain saw so look for those videos. Before long you will become a woodsman.

  2. Hello Nick hope your keeping well great to see you with your new equipment that's the bar what the chain runs on a wee tip don't rev engine when the chain brake is on it's sore on the clutch try and split logs in a old tyre and cure your firewood wet logs will soot and clog up your chimney you will be fine

  3. Hi I recently watched a ‘Portugal from scratch’ episode where she learns how to use and maintain a chainsaw and thought you may benefit from watching it. Please don’t take this the wrong way as it is not a criticism but from what I learned from watching it I noticed you (like I would had I not watched the episode) used the chainsaw like a saw when your supposed to hold it still in a certain place and let it do the work. It was a really informative video and well worth a watch in my opinion 👍 I love that you decided to keep the dog by the way ♥️ that made my heart burst ♥️

  4. Hi Nick, good news that your keeping Lola it could be interesting when the four meet for the first time and great that Miss Sarah and yourself are moving permanently, we have been living here for three years now and no way we would go back to the UK, my lady Carol has gone back for Xmas but I'm staying here.
Already looking forward to the next video Take care especially with the chainsaw 😂😂
    Mike.

  5. Well didn’t think you were going to keep both dogs 😏( you big softy’s ) I knew it 🤣😂
Well you sorted that wood out fast with your new toys
If you don’t do another video I’m wishing you a happy Christmas and a happy new year 😁

  6. Good for you guys with the dogs and glad you got the chain saw and axe..much better for you…and your wife is going back to U.K and you did say something about living soon full time in Portugal and that is good news….stay well and wishing you both a very Merry Christmas..

  7. So pleased you got a chainsaw!! It was painful watching you chop wood with that miliwaukee tool. Be careful! The recommendation of getting protective kit is a good one – those things cut quick and deep. Slipped with one back in the day and had a near miss. Full protection from that day I can tell you!! Have a great Christmas!

  8. Very exciting news that you will both be in Portugal full time soon! ❤️ 🇵🇹
Deadpool logic, you wore the red shirt 😆 Glad it wasn’t needed! I expect Sarah can chop firewood with that fancy axe! Looking forward to the video evidence!
Looks like you’re having fun cutting and chopping firewood, if you run out there’s plenty to do here because we just have a rip saw, lol 😆
Merry Christmas to you too! Feliz Natal! 🎄🎅🏽🥂
    Take care!

  9. The prelude to the axe work had me on the edge of my seat. The cake looks delicious. As for lack of interesting content: nope, hasn't happened so far. Happy Christmas to both of you (and the dogs). Take care and stay well.

  10. I'm going to have to make a carrot cake, you've made me hungry with that scrummy looking grub.
You made me laugh about the larva in the timber because I'd just thought the same thing about it's appearance. We used to have what we called Willy Wireworm balloons when I was a child.
I knew you'd have to keep Lola, good luck with the dogs getting to know each other eventually.
You need to keep your legs well away from the chainsaw by the way.
Thank you for the video, a very happy Christmas & a peaceful New year to you both.
    Xxx 🎄🥂🎄

  11. It's pronounced "steel", like the metal and that "thing is a bar. I keep watching your old videos and wished I knew about that house in that little village where the oldest chapel in Portugal was, of course I would have to sell my house in Connecticut first. Please keep on looking for houses like this for older people like me (69). Even at my age, being well versed in construction and in great shape, I don't want to spend 5 years working on a house only to have a few years left to enjoy it. I love your videos and think you are doing a real service, laying the ground work for people like me that want to retire in Portugal with all the tidbits of information you provide! Thanks!
