Thanks for taking the time to show actual costs. My husband & I just spent 5 weeks in Lisbon, returning to TX May 4th & we fell in love with Portugal. We plan to move to Lisbon in 2023. We stayed in Campolide, near Parque Eduardo VII & Lumiar and really liked both neighborhoods. We considered Saldanha until we went Apt hunting & saw the prices. You are the 2nd blogger to point out that it's cheaper to buy health insurance thru a broker vs going directly thru the company. Will definitely check out afpop. Our yearly health insurance is $16,000!
Compared to the US, health insurance & utilities in Portugal are cheaper! Our water & garbage pickup are $90/mo. Cable with no premium channels bundled with fiber optic cable was $207/mo. When cable co threatened to increase the price we switched to streaming YouTube TV for $64/mo. Each cell phone = $40mo. For us, it would be cheaper to live in Portugal!
Do you miss family & friends or feel homesick? And is Lisbon now “ home”?
Hi Kirsten,
I love your videos!! My family is preparing to move to Lisbon from Arizona in a couple of months and me in December. But I am worrying myself crazy about whether I should ship my car and furniture for 13k or just let it go and start new. I enjoy my Vitamix and 85" Samsung tv and want to ship it but I'm not even sure if my appliances will work in Portugal with or without a transformer because it depends on the buildings electrical system. Do you miss having a car? Do you know if an American vitamix blender would work in Portugal? Is quality furniture and decor expensive to buy in Portugal to start over? Thank you so much in advance! 😊
Love your video's, very informative. We are working on our D7, leaving San Diego as well, hope to be there in September!
We were nervous about our 3-year lease, but now with the market, we are also pretty happy with it.
We travel on the trains, we are both over 60 so we get half price travel, this is brilliant.
Still trying to figure out why African Americans are moving to a country that has always treated blacks so poorly. I just don't get it.
Hello Kirsten,
Always love the information you share. Thanks!💕
😁👍
Hi Kirsten, thank you for the breakdown. With respect to the health insurance, was there a discount offered for paying in a lump sum or was it a personal preference to get the bill out of the way? Have a great weekend and see ya in your next video =) cheers!
Love to hear the realistic costs…very helpful for all considering the move (though I think we’ve decided to head to Saldanha)…thank you so much for this
That's not bad for 2 people. I'll be over there asap if I had a partner in crime.😀😀
Would you mind sharing who your healthcare insurance is from?
Wow! Where to begin? I hate to brag, but we are so lucky in the healthcare dept…We just moved from France so our situation is completely different, but I just went to the ER and doc…FREE! We have European health cards and I have always loved my cheap Healthcare! I think you are right, in general, don't think all is so cheap in Portugal, but your groceries and utilities seem a bit high…Anyhow, we all budget the way we want and can afford! You are so right about the rental market and that's why we are buying!! Very informative video and thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you for your information. It’s helps in thinking about expenses. But, so painful to hear! If I were to retire now, that’s my pension amount. I want to leave now! 😜 I’m sensible, and I know that’s not enough, without extra wiggle room. 4.5 years to go! 😊
Always great information . Thanks💖
