This is not true!!! I am a portuguese trader, in Portugal if you have as your main commercial activity the trading of cryptocurrencies or financial investments, stock exchange etc, you must declare this income in your irs. If you have a different activity and sell some cryptocurrencies, you don't have to pay taxes.

I really don't think the Government knows about the benefits of attracting Blockchain into the country. Who is "lobbying" in the name of Blockchain in Portugal, who in the community has this data, how is this message getting across to the media? They will probably just stall and take what EU recommends. The only hope is at the "lobbying" being made at Brussels.

Portugal's problem is having the extreme left in parliament, because everything that is economy is to be destroyed, a dream of the extreme to make everything the same as Venezuela, Cuba or North Korea. It would have hurt the country in the long term but the EU doesn't care. They want all these tax schemes and CBI programs to die off. They only want the nations to take in those looking for a handout who will be dependent on the gov. The EU needs to be dissolved.

Bad news..Portugal is in the EU. Seems like the EU is going to issue a directive to force ALL EU countries to tax crypto the way THEY prescribe.. My guess this will be law in the next year. We shall see. At last, a good reason for Brexit.

Portuguese here. Portugal will eventually do what the rest of the EU, specifically Germany does, as usual. But the government probably realized the good publicity from being crypto friendly so they may resist to change things in the near future
