#WHAT IS D 7 VISA IN PORTUGAL?#
The D7 visa is an affordable and attractive Portugal immigration visa allowing non-EU citizens to get Portuguese residency provided they have sufficient funds to sustain themselves during their stay in Portugal.
This visa is ideal for retirees or entrepreneurs who want to live in Portugal without having to make a major economic investment.
The D7 visa can then be renewed after one year for two successive periods of two years and can be converted into a permanent residence permit after five years. In addition, after five years of holding the D7 visa, you’ll also be able to request Portuguese nationality, provided you fulfill the other requirements foreseen in the Portuguese nationality law.
#D7 visa income requirements In 2021#
In order to obtain the D7 Visa, applicants must show that they have a minimum income or pensions for a 12 month-duration of: €7.980 for the first adult, €3.600 for second or more adults, €2.160 per child. Proof that you have income that allows you to live in Portugal. To be eligible, you must have income or pensions amounting for 12 months. You must provide 6 months bank statements to SEF.
#D7 Residence VISA For Foreigners#
Article 58 paragraph 1 of Law no. 23/2007 of July 4 and article 24 d) of Regulatory Decree no. 84/2007 of November 5.
The Pensioners, retired foreign citizens or other foreigners living off of a recognized stable income, such as movable property, real estate, intellectual property or financial investments may apply for D7 Portuguese Visa.
The Portuguese legislation provides for a special visa – D7 Visa – that allows foreigner citizens, who wish to reside in Portugal as retirees or live on their own income, regardless of age, the entrance in Portugal in order to obtain a residence permit, provided that they can prove to have sufficient income to provide them with means of livelihood. This income can come from pensions, real estate rentals, investments, among others.
#The Procedure#
The Portuguese consular missions and consular sections with jurisdiction within the area of the applicant’s residence hold legal power for granting have the legal power to grant the D7 visa. The deadline for the decision on the visa application is 60 days.
The consular service in charge must request a legal binding opinion from the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Police (SEF), which must issue the said opinion within 20 days.
#Type And Validity Of The Visa#
The D7 visa is a residence visa that is intended to enable the holder to obtain a residence permit in Portugal. In this context, the visa is valid for two entries and entitles the holder to remain in Portugal for a period of 4 months.
#Residence Permit#
The D7 visa enables the respective holder to obtain a residence permit in Portugal for a period of one year, which can then be renewed for successive periods of 2 years and can be converted into a permanent residence permit after 5 years.
#Family Reunification#
Members of the family of the holder of the residence permit obtained via a D7 visa are also entitled to a residence permit, based on family reunification statute.
#Resident’s Rights#
Without prejudice to the application of special provisions and other rights provided in the law or any international convention to which Portugal is a party, the holder of a residence permit shall be entitled to, without the need for a special authorization regarding his or her foreign status, the following:
#Access to the National Health Service care;
Access to the Portuguese National Education Service and schools;
Exercise of any work activity as an independent professional;
Access to Portuguese Vocational schooling, initial and further professional training and retraining;
Access and protection from the Portuguese Law and legal system.

Application form (available in SEF’s website);
Passport or other valid travel document;
Two identical passport size photos; with blank background, and easily identifiable;
Valid travel insurance, with coverage for all medical expenses, including urgent medical assistance and possible repatriation;
Application for Criminal Record consultation by Portuguese Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF);
Certificate of criminal records issued by his/her home country of origin or the country where the applicant resided for more than one year;
Proof that the applicant has adequate accommodation;
Proof of health insurance coverage;
Document providing the amount of pension.
