DIY Limecrete Floor – Part 1: Excavation – #18

We’ve been busy for some time working away in the house and finally have something to show for it. Join us for the first part in a series of renovation videos as we start the process of laying a new floor in our old Portuguese farm house.

To lay a limecrete floor we first need to dig out to accommodate all the layers. That meant digging out 400mm (over a foot) of earth and clay and moving it bucket by bucket.

Join us for some good old fashioned digging timelapse and an explanation of what a limecrete floor is and why we’re installing one in this old wine making room.

  1. Loving what you two are doing with the downstairs room. Appreciate the hard work you've done. Any chance of sharing a list of the materials planned for the flooring?

  2. Love your videos, and watching how your plans work out. Plus you have the hardest working Wife I have ever seen, and also the most skilled woman. Hope you have enough down time to recover from your labors…I have binged watch all your videos…it’s a easy watch…even though she seems to work harder consistently…keep up the great work…I know it’s no small task

  3. Love love the content! Love love the way you present the content, perfect time lapse use (in my layman’s eye), the integrity, the humor, the way you work together. Chapeau!! And great entertainment for me who has already lived a live of diy 😉

  4. Cool, back in the house. Really looking forward to the ground floor renovation, very curious how it will turn out. Has lots of potential to make a really cozy stylish downstairs!! 💪💪💪

  5. Love watching you both. Kylie, you make us women proud. A note about butts: here in USA big butts (booties) are becoming more and more a sign of beauty, thanks to Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and many others. I agree, the camera makes things bigger, but a booty is something to be proud of. 😃

  6. I think your butt is perfect! I'm jealous of anyone with a little junk in the trunk. I really enjoy the time lapses on the tedious parts and the thorough explanations of what you are doing on the rest.

  7. Guy what are you like at building ladders ? That hole you're digging is getting deeper by metres. When Kylie said 'be honest", your reply should be 'it is just the way I like it!!!!!' My husband has found himself on several occasions with no wood at the bottom to build a ladder! lol. You are incredible workers and obviously a fabulous team. Well done

  8. Almost made it through the whole video without a sexual inuendo but it didn't last long! "I like a good piece of wood" and "butt size relative to wide angle lens ". Shockers, the pair of you!
Love your channel and sense of humour.

  9. These areas under the main room where wine was made and stored were called "adegas" (cellars), like the one you explained. But the others are called "lojas" (shops) and it was where the ancients kept food for cattle, all utensils for work in the fields and agriculture and store cereals, potatoes, beans, etc, etc.
Good work, great workers, fantastic content, as always.
