Thinking about living in Portugal? Do your research, but don’t believe everything you see, hear, read, watch, etc. Online forums, blogs, and vlogs are great and full of information. But don’t forget that everyone’s experience is different, so you should come see for yourself!

Absolutely, and not understanding that Lisbon metropolitan area has more than 3 M people and covers a much larger area. New York isn't only downtown Manhattan.
Great idea to budget for the exchange rate .✨
Excellent suggestion regarding getting a nif and bank account early rather than waiting until D7 time 👍🏼 We are headed to Portugal next summer on our scouting trip and that will be a great time to get those things set up as we aren’t planning to move until 2025. Thanks for another great video!
Thank you for sharing. Coming in Sept to experience for ourselves. Please keep the awesome and informative content coming. My wife and I have started walking in preparation! Agape. Sam and Kayla of Texas
We just came back from there and like you we expected to see dog poop too. i actually never saw any dog poop throughout our stay. We were also told people would be trying to sell us drugs everywhere and again we never saw this anywhere. so true what you are saying.
Lovely video. Muito obrigada.
Interesting, my delayed 2020 trip to Ghana made me aware of travel to Portugal. Lisbon or Milan had the best prices to fo to Ghana, while adding new stamps to my passport. Lisbon was the better match because I would want similar clothes. As my research continued, others were switching from Ghana to Portugal due to infrastructure, weather, and Ghana is now expensive for us. Hopefully, I’ll make it to Portugal this year! 🤞🏾
As a portuguese native let me break down the poop thing to you… yes, we used to have a dog poop crisis years ago, but since the authorities decided to create some laws about it, people started to comply. If you have a dog you are obligated by law to pick up the funny business with a plastic bag and put it in the trash. There are many places that provide them in containers in the street. You will be fined if you don’t do it. Also the street cleaning services are also better than years ago. You still can find dog poop rarely because in places (more rural areas) that still have some stray dogs that can happen. However is not an issue anymore that can prevent someone to move here.
Beautiful
Great video keep it up!
Facts. I'll be there in a few weeks.
We must be part of the same online group. I saw the lady post about not moving due to the hospital situation. I immediately thought, why doesn't she check it out for herself instead of just going by one person's experience. Smh…
I love your videos. You keep it real.
Another excellent, useful video, Kirsten! Thanks for the banking tip. It’s in my plan now. Still owe you guys a meal when I hit Portugal.
This was very helpful. Thank you
Hi Kirsten, aswome video! Have you thought about offering the visa services for people who wants to settle in Portugal? I would definitely use your service, 😀
I understand the idea of making this s kinda videos but the truth is… The more Expats go to Portugal, the higher the rents get for the locals.
Portuguese people are forced to move out of the town centres and out of the cities coz they cannot afford it.
This is not gonna end up well, It's just a matter of time.
Great advice Kirsten!
I'm probably mean by saying this but honestly do you or Portugal really want dumb people moving there? To me, if you read something some rando says on the Internet and you believe it without verifying it, then you're just dumb. One other thing about the NIF, you need fiscal representation for it so you may not want to get one less than 12 months prior to moving to Portugal as it's going to cost you some cash to have someone do that for you.
Thank you for the helpful hints. The dog poop seems like an European thing, and also depends on the area.
Hi Kirsten, new subscriber here. This is such a coincidence as I was just reading a couple Facebook posts about the dog poop situation and it really freaked me out. I was also discouraged as I am a recovering germaphobe who also has a dog. The thought of poop just being left on the street sounded really disgusting and unhygienic. Thanks for making this video. Even though I do want too for myself, this a certainly encouraging. 😊
Another common sense video by Kirsten!
We’ve been considering relocating to PT for close to two years now and, yes, many ‘just arrived’ YT videos mentioned the dog-poop situation. Hence, when we visited late last year, we were all on high dog-poop alert! What do we see? Nothing—except a small area of a small town in the Algarve near the train station. Maybe the cleaning crew was on strike and didn’t get to that area yet?! 🤷
Occasionally I hear contradictory comments about PT—so as you correctly point out—take all your knowledge with a grain of salt and see for yourself. I also lend more credibility to those that live in PT vs those that visit someplace for a few days or hours and offer their ‘first impressions.’
Appreciate the quick tour of your apartment. Looks larger than I was envisioning. Apologies to Mark for our interruption. 😂
We’ll be returning in September to (hopefully) narrow down our long list of living locations in PT. We then plan to revisit in winter 2023 and live in two or three locations (for about 3-4 weeks in each) to experience the winter. Appreciate your banking tip as well. Excellent tip!
Thanks for all videos! Say “hey” to Mark. 👍🏻
Hi there K😊,
Another great video! Do you recommend an someone for the D7 services? Love love the video!
That’s hilarious, I don’t think I ever saw dog poo anywhere. I’ve been to Lisbon before and I loved it. I’m planning to move to Portugal next year (hitting the ground in Braga).
And this is a great topic! It’s so true unfortunately. I’m not sure why people are like that and base their decisions SOLELY on someone else’s opinion or experience. I read blogs sometimes and watch tons of YouTube videos, but it’s not necessarily for advice. But to hear about different experiences and to see what a city looks like.
And I’m definitely looking at hiring an attorney and/or relocation service. Not because I can’t do it myself, but because I just don’t want to deal with the process. Thanks for the video!
A quick question- in what neighborhood are you in Lisbon? I want to retire there, and looking for areas that people feel safe in and enjoy!
A second question – how is drought affecting life there?
I love your down to earth approach and practical advice !
Off topic, but very useful since yesterday. Have you been to Estufa Fria?
Thank you! Great content as always. Have a question, do you think the winters there are doable? Meaning snow, freezing cold weather? I have read so many blogs about cold in apartments, mold. I guess it depends on the upkeep of a building.
Thank you so much for this information. I’m looking to travel there next month for the first time and see if it’s for me. Thanks again!
