Dr. Alexey Pamporov – Regional and Subgroup patterns of Romani migration from Bulgaria

Alexey Pamporov focuses on the particularities of Romani migration from Bulgaria. In the first part of his presentation, he gives an overview over selected characteristics of the different cultural-ethnic subgroups living in the different regions in Bulgaria. In the second part, he shows in a detailed analysis the different migration patterns of the different sub-groups and their relationships among each other, getting very specific with the example of the city of Peshtera. The time frame he mainly touches upon comprises 1989 until today.

The lecture was given during the International Spring School (14–18 February 2022) at RUB “EU enlargement, migration dynamics and local policy responses of cities – Bulgarian & Romanian migration in Europe”.
